TX-5

He has no website and barely a Facebook with hardly any updates.

No response to prospective customers?....sounds bad. I don’t care if the company is big or small. Customer service is what will keep them afloat.

Booked till September? How many saddles did he take orders for exactly?

He responded immediately to me. I think he only makes custom saddles. Maybe 10 per month.
I like him. Just a man working out of his house building what you want.

Try messenger on FB. Or this site. I Forget his pm.

A custom saddle is not for someone who has no clue what they want yet.

Innovation will likely happen with people who allow customization.

I doubt Chad Rice’s started any differently. And that Cruzr XC is fantastic and the most comfortable saddle I have used and he is sold out too and I expect it is now hard to order from him.

He messaged me back less then 48 hours later, said no new orders till September so sounds like business is booming for a one man show. Hell I'm still waiting on emails back from mystery ranch and kryptek and they are alot bigger companies with more employees.

I have had nothing but great customer service so far with TX-5. He is running his business on the side while working a full time job. I don't have my saddle yet, but he has been very upfront and overly fair on everything he has told me.
Sometimes life gets in the way and I would rather him take his time finishing up your saddle correctly and safely instead of rushing through your saddle to get to my saddle.

Hello guys and gals! I just wanted to post a little update on our saddle order situation. I read a comment from an individual that stated they didn’t really like the way I was doing business and felt I had poor customer service. (1) because I don’t have a website (2) because I missed responding to a potential customer or 2 (3) I don’t post very many updates on my page.

I’d like to address these concerns and let my customers know that doing all that I can to build you guys and gals the saddle you want is one of my top priorities. (1) I have a website in the works but it’s going to take time. I build saddles on the side I do have a full time day job as well at a local paper mill. I also have 3 beautiful children and a wonderful wife that I enjoy spending time with. I fit sewing time in as much as I can. (2) I get PM’s on 4 different platforms, my personal fb page messenger, the messenger on this page, saddlehunter.com and my personal cell phone. I try very hard to answer every message in a timely manner but every now and then one gets lost in the mix and I either don’t see it or don’t have time to respond at the time I read it. (3) I do apologize for not posting very many updates on the page. Like I stated before I stay pretty busy and I give my customers that have paid me priority. I try to get their gear out to them as quickly as possible and that leaves a little time for me to answer PM’s and texts in between sewing, spending time with my family and my day job.

I know I have some unanswered messages on my page now and I will be getting back to those people this week. But if you messaged me in the last couple of weeks and I failed to respond, I apologize and if you want to send me another message I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

This is how I’m going to handle orders from now on. I’ll be contacting the next 10 guys on my list in the next several days to finalize saddle build details. Once we get all the details down I’ll take payment and I’ll begin building saddles for those 10 people. Those 10 people will have a lead time of 7 to 28 days. Once I complete those 10 saddles I will contact the next 10 people and start the process over again.

I know this is different, I know this isn’t for everyone but I feel this is my best option at this time. I don’t rush when building saddles I take my time and I feel it shows in the quality of my products. I take pride in the fact that I build each one of these things with my own 2 hands and I want them to be as perfect as they can be so I have very satisfied customers.

I’m just like the rest of you I don’t like waiting on my gear. I want it and I want it now. I wish I could build 100 saddles a month but I just can’t and I may never get to that point. Honestly I don’t know if I want to mass produce because I feel like when you do that quality does suffer in some cases. I also feel like the way I’m building saddles is unique and often produces a one of a kind saddle. I for one think that’s pretty cool!

Anyway if you read all of this I really appreciate you taking the time to do so! If you feel like the way I’m doing business is not for you, well that’s fine too I am not mad at you one bit. There are plenty of other great options out there that you can get much faster and you can kill a deer out of them the same way you can out of a TX5. If you do decide to wait and go with a TX5 I want you to know that I appreciate your business and I’ll do everything I can to make you a quality saddle that’s exactly what you want!

We aren’t taking any new saddle orders at this time because we have a waiting list that will probably run into mid to late September. If I get through the list faster than anticipated I’ll make a post on this page and try to let everyone know that we’re taking orders again.

Thanks for the support guys and gals!

Matt Tompkins is a good guy. I was fortunate to get on the list awhile back and he is in the process of designing my saddle. He is a one man show here but he was attentive to what i wanted. Speaking with him in regards to his business he definitely is busy and i know we talked a little shop about the future of his business. He is very concerned with making sure his customers needs are met and will live up to that. I opted to have a saddle made in his custom pattern called apexhorizon which is a play on sitka ev2 pattern. Its very similar and is painted on condura. When the guy says if it doesn’t hold up ill build you a new one thats customer service. Im looking forward to receiving my TX5 and if you reach out to him just be a little more patient than one of the bigger saddle makers he will get back to you!!

Said the same thing to me, customer satisfication guaranteed. @MCDM. That is a gracious comment from a Tethrd pro.
He is building a saddle out of a new material. Wolf skin for me. The material is what interested me . The pattern is not as cool as yours but I am interested in the fabric

For me personally its always about the community and to show support for someone’s product. I like to try things its the nature of saddlehunters lol!! I think the one thing thats so cool is the customization of things that TX5 offers which is definitely appealing to me personally. I have also been in contact with quite a few who have owned his saddles and they appear to be nothing short of excellent in quality and one individual stated they brought it to a professional seamstress who stated that it was very well crafted. Obviously I love the boys at Tethrd and i represent them and their products however im still a saddlehunter and a gear junkie that likes to improve his system and his knowledge to provide the best resources for new guys and old alike.

That is a very gracious response that only increases my respect for your opinions. No sales pitch. I look forward to your review of the TX5

@setxhunter Matt Tompkins is an outstanding human being!! We could all learn from him. He is young but has an old soul and a peaceful attitude and demeanor towards people even when people try to ruffle his feathers. I think his workmanship and ability is going to benefit every single one of us in one way or another for a very long time!!!
