He has no website and barely a Facebook with hardly any updates.
No response to prospective customers?....sounds bad. I don’t care if the company is big or small. Customer service is what will keep them afloat.
Booked till September? How many saddles did he take orders for exactly?
This response from Facebook from Matthew
Hello guys and gals! I just wanted to post a little update on our saddle order situation. I read a comment from an individual that stated they didn’t really like the way I was doing business and felt I had poor customer service. (1) because I don’t have a website (2) because I missed responding to a potential customer or 2 (3) I don’t post very many updates on my page.
I’d like to address these concerns and let my customers know that doing all that I can to build you guys and gals the saddle you want is one of my top priorities. (1) I have a website in the works but it’s going to take time. I build saddles on the side I do have a full time day job as well at a local paper mill. I also have 3 beautiful children and a wonderful wife that I enjoy spending time with. I fit sewing time in as much as I can. (2) I get PM’s on 4 different platforms, my personal fb page messenger, the messenger on this page, saddlehunter.com and my personal cell phone. I try very hard to answer every message in a timely manner but every now and then one gets lost in the mix and I either don’t see it or don’t have time to respond at the time I read it. (3) I do apologize for not posting very many updates on the page. Like I stated before I stay pretty busy and I give my customers that have paid me priority. I try to get their gear out to them as quickly as possible and that leaves a little time for me to answer PM’s and texts in between sewing, spending time with my family and my day job.
I know I have some unanswered messages on my page now and I will be getting back to those people this week. But if you messaged me in the last couple of weeks and I failed to respond, I apologize and if you want to send me another message I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
This is how I’m going to handle orders from now on. I’ll be contacting the next 10 guys on my list in the next several days to finalize saddle build details. Once we get all the details down I’ll take payment and I’ll begin building saddles for those 10 people. Those 10 people will have a lead time of 7 to 28 days. Once I complete those 10 saddles I will contact the next 10 people and start the process over again.
I know this is different, I know this isn’t for everyone but I feel this is my best option at this time. I don’t rush when building saddles I take my time and I feel it shows in the quality of my products. I take pride in the fact that I build each one of these things with my own 2 hands and I want them to be as perfect as they can be so I have very satisfied customers.
I’m just like the rest of you I don’t like waiting on my gear. I want it and I want it now. I wish I could build 100 saddles a month but I just can’t and I may never get to that point. Honestly I don’t know if I want to mass produce because I feel like when you do that quality does suffer in some cases. I also feel like the way I’m building saddles is unique and often produces a one of a kind saddle. I for one think that’s pretty cool!
Anyway if you read all of this I really appreciate you taking the time to do so! If you feel like the way I’m doing business is not for you, well that’s fine too I am not mad at you one bit. There are plenty of other great options out there that you can get much faster and you can kill a deer out of them the same way you can out of a TX5. If you do decide to wait and go with a TX5 I want you to know that I appreciate your business and I’ll do everything I can to make you a quality saddle that’s exactly what you want!
We aren’t taking any new saddle orders at this time because we have a waiting list that will probably run into mid to late September. If I get through the list faster than anticipated I’ll make a post on this page and try to let everyone know that we’re taking orders again.
Thanks for the support guys and gals!
