This has probably been done before, but I thought I’d share. I’m digging the thermarest seat pad for a knee cushion. It weighs nothing and is surprisingly very comfortable.
I know a lot of guys prefer actual knee pads like Arc’teryx but I just can’t justify the $70. This pad can be had for about $15 on Amazon and would serve double duty as a turkey seat or a canoe seat. This particular one is gray on one side and coyote brown on the other. Here’s the link on Amazon: Therm-a-Rest Z Seat Cushion Insulated Sitting Pad https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRSVOP1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mXeoFbEE3TM6M

What was comfort like compared to knee pads? I've got everything pictured and will have to give this a try.

Completely comfortable. Every bit as comfy as any knee pads I’ve ever tried. This was the biggest shock to me...I was quite skeptical until I tried it. Plus you have the option of keeping it folded for additional padding, but it’s definitely not necessary imo.

How long did you try it? I like the looks and packability

I just recently bought it so I’ve not pulled a lot of time in it yet. just doing brief yard sits or kneeling on the pad in the house and I think it will definitely be fine for all day sits.

I just took the seat cushion off of an old hang on stand I had. It is 1.5" thick and the dimensions(8"x14") were exactly what I was looking for.

I have the exact same, but I’ll attach it by folding it over a 550 cord line run around the tree and hooked into a prussic loop.
Another great use for that pad, is putting it between your saddle and your butt, keeps the chills off through even the coldest winter.

I paid $55 bucks for my Arc'teryx knee pads a I think they are worth every penny. They are so comfy I forget I'm wearing them. No fiddle factor at the tree either. I wear them in.

I’m glad someone with the Arc’teryx chimed in. Also glad you found something you are happy with! How well do they stay in place on your knees while climbing? I had some cheapos that wanted to fall off mid climb, which was extremely inconvenient.

Can't even tell I'm wearing them.

I use a foam pad w/ small bungees that go around the tree and hook to the bark or all the way around a small tree.

Those look like they would be comfortable......for about 5 minutes :tearsofjoy:
They have been comfortable for about 10 climbs and sitting for about 6 hours each time. They are still intact and comfortable. I'm using them here with shorts just 2 days ago. You don't have to spend a s**t load of money to get comfortable knee pads.
