Ugh. 2 weeks before archery season begins I was hospitalized for 3 days with vertigo/nausea/vomiting/dehydration. I missed taking my son out for youth season, and we'd been looking forward to that. I'm out now, but the vertigo symptoms are still going on: sudden lurches in balance and attendant nausea, though I've happily stopped tossing my cookies every time it happens and am getting around ok. Still wobbly without warning. They say mine is due to a viral inner-ear infection and I have no choice but "wait it out" with nothing I can take to make it pass faster, and it's not due to "crystals" in my inner ears, so exercises/maneuvers don't work for it. Supposedly, nothing does, except time.

Anyone else ever deal with this, or know anything I can do to get rid of it faster? I've been restricted from driving and out of work for over a week now and that's getting old, but now it's threatening hunting season, and that's just too dang serious. I'd stand on my head and gargle cat wiz if that'd help, so I'm really open to anything... any ideas?

I've never heard of any solution other than time. I get it occasionally and it tends to happen more with changing weather in fall and spring.

Bummer to hear that man, hopefully it passes quickly and you can still get your son out soon! I Have no advice other than stay rested, and get well!

Massive disclaimer for this... I am not a doctor and everything i am about to say could be 100% wrong, but these are the things i would look into. I any of this contradicts what your doctor said feel free to call me an idiot (plenty of doctors have before).

As i understand it, vertigo comes from the balance in your inner ear being off. As Such, two things i would investigate trying would be: slowly working on your balance so you learn to trust your inner ear again (if you get dizzy stop, when you feel better continue. Possibly this way you can incrementally work to right your ear), or having a doctor clean your ears (i had a friend who massively suffered from motion sickness and a doctor prescribed a procedure where they heated up his ear and drained the wax out. he said he didnt believe the amount of gunk that came out of his ear and he thought it helped him.)

Good Luck and feel better!

Meclizine helps with the dizziness, but I'm down from 3x/day to maybe once/day. I definitely don't like the drowsiness that comes along with it. Thanks

Hmm. I was told the viral nature of mine was irritating a nerve on the inside causing the problem, but I'll ask about cleaning. Thanks.

make sure you do not have water in your ear. A mix if 50/50 vinegar and alcohol. Second there are some exercises you can do look them up on the internet. Only thing doctors can give you is motion sickness pills. There is no real cure.

Don't be in a hurry.

Vertigo is not fun. Do not watch TV with fast moving objects it will make you dizzy. Avoid heights as much as possible right now.

look this up in google

vertigo exercises with pictures

If you are wearing a new RX prescription that can cause it too. Had that happen.

If it is BPPV a physical therapist near you should be able to perform some positional movements to correct the problem in 1-2 sessions usually.

Man. My daughter is going through this right now. Here was diagnosed as vestibular neuritis. Basically a virus causing inflammation of a nerve in her inner ear. We aren’t sure what the trigger is yet, doing further testing. But hydration is huge. I had to give her IV fluids to quit the nausea, along with some Zofran. Dr prescribed an oral steroid too, which has seemed to help. But the physical therapy is hands down the best. They told her she needs to essentially “retrain her brain”. Kinda weird. But she basically works on compensating and eventually the nerve will calm back down. But until then, the PT is great. It’s mostly balance training. Many professional athletes do this kind of work. Hope that helps some. And good luck with a speedy recovery!

Getting better every day. The last 2 days I've woken up without balance issues, but they come around later in the day.

I'm back to work part time from home so I'm not cut down to just short term disability pay anymore, but not allowed to drive yet, and if I don't take meclizine for dizziness on schedule you can tell.

But better every day. That's pretty good news.

Glad you are feeling a little better. Take it slow and you will heal up with nothing but a story to tell later on. Best of luck to you and your son this season.

My wife dealt with this for a while. Hydrate and time was the remedy. Glad you're feeling better. You'll be in the woods before you know it... until then there is always saddle hunter.. :tearsofjoy:

My brother had it and the doctor did some positioning to him to reset his crystals. He said he looked it up and youtube and they showed how to do the same exercises. But I don't suggest youtube over a doctor. lol

I had that about 3 years ago. Dr said the same thing, but mine was inflamed because of me wearing ear plugs. It's mandatory at my work. Said the evaporation from my sweet couldn't be released from inside my ear so it accumulated and made it worse.
I did some kind of tilt my head exercise to release the fluid 3 times a day, and also put rubbing alcohol in my water to help evaporate it.

I got vertigo from taking a medication and it was an awful experience. It got better with time. Hopefully your recovery is quick and complete.

yes i have dealt with it. KETO has really helped my allergies and congestion - I have not experienced sever vertigo since I started cutting carbs which was causing inflammation and I believe screwing with my inner ears.
