Video climb. Petzl RADS

That's how I do it, works awesome. Do you use a pulley? I just run my rope through the bottom Boner on the left hand ascender and it gives me good leverage. Prolly not great for the rope but I swap out at the end of the year. Also are you running a GriGri?

I tried doing that, got a decent amount of leverage but the chafing made it pretty uncomfortable to sit up in the tree.

How are those roll clip carabiners? Noisey? If not I for sure need one

I use a petzl Rollclip carabiner at the top and a Petzl Rig for Ascent/Descent. I used a Gri-Gri for a while when I started.

How do you like the Petzl rig? It's almost twice as expensive as the Grigri2 so you must like it a lot more? I started with a pulley at the top, then ran through the carabiner and now I don't use at all. I just pull the rope up through my Grigri2 rather than pulling down. It takes more effort, but I get more distance with each step that way.

The rig is heavy and big compared to other devices, but I like it the most of all I have tried. Pull the lever and you are locked.....pull it the other way and you have perfect control of your descent and it is spring loaded unlike the Gri-Gri so it won't dump you if you un-weight it. I use the pulley for redirect because it is less work. I am trying to keep from sweating at all. I usually get about a foot on each pull for comfort. I can get 18" if I want to work at it.

So the solid locking sounds like the feature you like the most? Thanks for sharing. What size rope do you run? I've been pretty happy with my grigri2 so far. I feel really solid on it and have never had an issue. I've only used one season though.

A lot of guys are using lighter lines, but mostly for rapelling. I like 11mm because I hunt from it......I don't switch to a tree strap. I have been using several ropes for 5 years or more and they look new. Nothing wrong with a Gri-Gri as long as you keep it weighted.

I've never ran a grigri, but I've run a Petzel ID from about 80 feet doing rope access work on towers. I wouldn't run anything else. To me they are dummy proof...they lock either way you run the lever. I have used other figure 8 blocks but if I don't keep up on my training I lose confidence in them...unlike the ID. I was running 11mil static lines. I'll try to post a video on here if a buddy using one for the first time and having no problems

Also I've done rescue training where I was clipped into another climber and so about 500lbs on the Petzel ID...using a beener as an added friction device/redirect and it still preformed flawless

Get em while they last, Petzl ID for 169 bucks brand new. 2 left.

The ISC D4 is a pretty awesome piece of kit as well.

If climbing rope wasn't so dang heavy (and expensive) I would be looking into SRT. I would probably bite the bullet and do the HAAS velox. But, throwing a line every hunt seems hard to do in the real thick woods I hunt, especially if I'm going to try to do it close to bedding.

Throwing a line in brushy limbed trees every hunt would suck! Gotta do pre-sets. Pull the rope up with pre-set lines. Paracord lasts a long time up in a tree. Get close to bedding areas off season and set lines. Yes climbing line and the ever changing equipment upgrades are expensive. Can't argue with that. If you are successful with your current techniques there is no need to change.

I have an unfair advantage... I have 80,000 acres where I can use spikes and drilled bolts... if I get drawn for a couple of the really prestigious lottery properties around me, I will developed a better damage free climbing method for sure.

This SRT looks awesome. I have some huge creek bottom trees where this would be a great way to get up and down.
