Video on how I one stick

Lots of tying and untying right?

Yea and it’s harder to tie the step and cam it over when your hanging and you have a teather rope between you and the step. Another thing I have tried is to set a step at about 4 ft. Then set a stick beside it. I would climb the stick then step over to the step. Then set another step at 4 ft above the first step then move the same Muddy stick up beside the next step. It can be done that way too. But it was too many moving parts for me. I like simple. But it didn’t hurt to give it a shot. Lol

Great video! I used this method for a full season when I first started saddle hunting and got pretty quick at it. I would always swing off to the left of the stick so I could slide it up but your method of using the tether to hold the stick is pretty slick. I wouldn't hesitate to use this method again if I wanted to pack super light in an area I can't use my Geckos.

Thanks Flinginairos, it was your video that encouraged me to give the spurs a try. I bought the climb rites set up like your old set. For some reason it is painful for me climbing with them. I’m going to order some pole gaffs for them maybe that helps. Thanks

I hope you like it as much as I do. I just painted 5 of them today like G2 shows on YouTube. They almost disappear into an oak tree. When you try it out let me know how you liked it. Thanks

@Cain Nice job! Truly a legit way to one stick climb. Someone asked about using a Step. Have you tried it with a step that has an amsteel aider fastened to it? The nice thing about your method is that you are actually tethered to a tree, which is slower than your Cain Method, but adds a nice level of safety. Pete

No I haven’t tried it with Amsteel. But I can’t see it being as fast as a stick simply because of all the knot tying.
On a tree with no limbs, the one sticking method I use is going to be faster than the step method I use. If there are a lot of limbs , then the steps will work better.
If you get a chance to try it , let me know how you like it. Thanks

Had a cool morning here so I went out to climb a few trees this morning. Practiced several methods including this @Cain one stick method. This works as advertised. I really like it. I used a Hawk Helium with an @DaveT1963 style aider. Felt very secure and the climb took very little effort and time. Nice Job @Cain, Thanks!

I climb with 1 Muddy stick with a multiple step aider and instead of tether I use my climbing line and a means to descend. With your method the possibility of losing the stick and being stranded up the tree although you mentioned having a fastener between you and the stick. I know with the system I use I can be at hunting height in just 3 movements of the stick/aider climbing rope combo. Great to see all this innovation in this department.

What aider are you using?

Awesome. I really like it too. It’s going to be my main climbing method this hunting season. Can’t wait to try it with my Mantis and predator. Thanks

This method has really caught my attention. Now I just need to get in with a few others and split a 4 pack of the muddy’s. Such a pain that they don’t sell singles.

@Cain do you think the muddy stick works best for this method, or do you think there is another single stick (hawk helium, beast stick, etc.) that would work even better?

How are you guys attaching the aider to the stick? I tied a water knot and then girth hitched it to the stick. It looks bulky though.
