I did this last year after searching the internet on rock climbing sites. Most recommended either not using soap (wrong soap can chemically degrade the fiber of the rope) or using a soap from the rope manufacturer. I ended up using no soap. Fill tub with Luke warm water, put ropes in, agitate by hand, hang to dry. Fair warning, you’ll be scrubbing that tub to get the dirt ring off of it.

What about baking soda?

From previous experience working with rescue rope in the fire service, this tool works great if you have a LOT of dirty ropes. Use manufacturer soap and check out this tool. If you don't have a lot of dirty rope, wash by hand and hang to dry out of direct sunlight. http://shop.pmirope.com/bokat-rope-washer-rc48002?returnurl=/rope/rope-care/ There's a lot of good information on the internet regarding use, storage and cleaning as long as you're sure of a reputable source. The manufacturer is your best bet.

Wash and rinse in cold water using a mild detergent. You are not supposed to machine dry them. You can was then in a washer just use gentle cycle and I recommend a nylon bag.

I used to put mine into a 5 gallon bucket with a little detergent and agitate by hand for a minute or so, let it sit, come back in 5, agitate again, and repeat a few times. Rinse in clean water, then lay out in a shady spot to air dry. Better if you can put on the line on a breezy day or use a fan to speed up drying time.

If you use a dryer you can damage the ropes.
