WE Step Rope Mod

@Peterk1234 i like the mod man!! I can see how this cuts down time and it looks like a great alternative to setting these steps up. A couple questions for you what are your strap lengths? I see you said you folded over 5 inches to make the loops. When sewing just correct me but you used a standard box “x” stitch and then some bar tacks? Is this correct?

@MCDM correct on the stitching. I am going to use them a few times then see how the stitching is doing, because you can really crank them when camming it over. There is zero give in the webbing when you cam them over; nothing. Honestly though, I can't imagine that the stitching will budge.

My straps are six feet long for now (6'5" unsewn). I think five feet would be the equivalent of a six foot rope because you do not need much of a tag end (no knot). I will eventually shorten them. Been testing it as a ring of wild edge steps as well. The setup really shines here because it is so easy to fine tune the tension and move things around. It also seems easier to keep the legs of the second step away from the webbing of the first, something that I find can be a challenge with the rope. It may have to do with the fact that the webbing is only around the crossbar on both ends, and not going around the bend of the step. This may be the thing providing just a little bit more flexibility regarding step height when camming (guessing here). I am still betting on the Bullman's working out. I will have them this week I think, so I will post a vid if it works.

I know some folks think this is a waste of time and I should just get primals. I use the WE Steps a lot and have been extremely satisfied with them. But if I can find solutions to things that delay my climb or get in my way, heck, might as well try to find them. Cutting down set up time, no ropes dangling and a simpler ring of WE Steps setup are important to me, just like eliminating the number of Steps required to get to height. I think the latter worked out fairly well with the swaider/knaider

@Peterk1234 can tie a WE Stepp. He's taught a lot of people how to tie a WE Stepp. So if he wants to play around with straps and buckles, I'm gunna sit back and watch cause good things happen when he puts his mind to work

No offense intended, but Pete is probably as fast as anyone here on tying the knot for the WE steps. He is one of the few who I have not seen waver from the the WE steps at all.

Yeah, I know @Peterk1234 is the man. I was just giving my 1 cent. Not everyone has to like every idea, that's all. I think steel buckles would do more harm than good for someone who can't tie a knot.

Too bad because some incredible stuff has come from this place for some of our "crazy" ideas. Can't imagine the crap I would get today for throwing the knaider/swaider idea out there

Keep up the good work @Peterk1234. IMO the vast majority of us appreciate the ingenuity you continue to demonstrate. Sometimes you just have to let the water from the detractors run off your back.

I just did a quick sew job to test this. I had all the spare parts laying around. You, my friend, are genius. I was getting ready to sell my wild edge steps. Glad I didn't! This is quick easy and rock solid. I haven't climbed with them yet, I just tested one. I need to order more material but I love this. Keep it up!!

Maybe... seems like a lot of triglides to keep track of and make sure they're not slipping. Someone could manufacture some parts and then you could girth hitch unto the rung. This would seem more reliable to me. Assuming you have a good source for sewing jobs.

Oh I didn't even know he had a flat hook on that!

I'd say it should work, if the webbing girth hitches neatly and the flat hook winds up in a decent location (close to the step).

@Peterk1234 i was just thinking about your last post but you recall when i created the aider with the WE stepps technique? I took alot of criticism on that in the Facebook circles some loved it some hated it in application lol. Its worked for quite a few people so you know for the naysayers i just tend to ignore and keep trucking along.
