What am I looking for in a tether rope?

The one I have I got from a buddy. It is indestructible but can help but want something lighter even if I replace it once a season.
Going to use a prussic knot.

Amsteel blue? Something else? Size? Weight tolerance?

I wouldn't use amsteel for a tether. It's slippery & prussic may not catch on it well. I'm using Sterling htp 9mm.

6 or 7 mm cord should work. You can tie your own or there are premade prussics. REI, Backcountry, Eastern Mntn Sports , R&W rope all sell suitable prussics .

Thanks, I called sterling and they recommended 7mm accesory cord, their hollow block, or the 6mm xtec (way to pricey for me). I was also recommended to use the ropeman 2 on the HTP 9mm buy someone (not sterling). Technically a ropeman 1 is not rated for the 9mm, not saying it doesn't work, just that technical specs suggest you should opt for the 2. I have a ropeman 2 en route as well. I'm not at all arguing, just pointing that out to anyone else that might read this. If it works that's all well and good. Just want everyone to have the information so they can decide for themself.

If you want lighter and less bulky, you may want to consider webbing. I've been using 2" and liking it. Rolls up pocket sized.

I've been using ropeman 1 for 2 yes now. It has never slipped.I always tie a backup under it . YMMV.

Doesn’t a backup defeat the purpose of increased speed and ease of adjustment?

No. I clip my bridge in to my tether . I'm also tied off to end of it . I can adjust as needed .Works for me .

Do you mean as a backup you clip the tag end of your tether to your bridge carabiner?

I'm using a rock harness. I clip it to my belay loop.
