I use yale bandit for my tethers and lineman's belt, But what are some good static ropes for ascending and descending? I'm going to use a petzl grigri2 and a petzl foot ascender.

I haven't been using this method too much lately, but I've been using some 9mm sterling htp. It has a nice stiff sheath and I like the rope alot. Right now I have it in the bright green, but in another thread @brydan linked to it in black somewhere.

It really depends on what method you're using. If you're talking SRT then any static rope should do if you're using mechanical ascenders. If you're planing on using prusics I would make sure you get a rope at least 10.5mm.

What would be a good rope to rappel down with. Right now I have a 30 ft Yale bandit in 11mm size. Also using an atc. I'm trying to cut some weight on the rope. Can I go smaller????

Are you using a backup friction knot with the atc? If not I'd highly recommend it.

The ATC is OK with 9mm Static if you use an Autoblock.
If you DON'T, you will descend quickly unless you are a lot skinnier and stronger than I am :)
