Who has snorted the Fairy Dust?

One way or another energy is always being dumped.

eg. COC head=more energy lost to drag, and more noise.

It'd be interesting to quantify frictional losses in slow/fast and COC/mech systems across various scenarios. Any Triboligists?
You could derive some basic data on this with just a chronograph and some COC/mech heads of the same weight.

While that is true I don't think the friction of air equates to metal on metal. Shooting a mech u know instantly u loosing some go juice cause some of your "penetration energy" is taken from u instantly to deploy the blades...and now u getting metal on metal friction and the accompanying vibrations happening on top of the critter moving possibly redirecting the line of flight....there's a lot going on right there if u think about it down to the micro details

So I've never been stabbed all the way thru so I can't speak from actual experience but I think about this sometimes too......when I was young and dumb me and my buddies get drunk and just trade blows to the arm till somebody gave up. When u know that punch is coming and u tense up u can take that shot all night but when u didn't know it was coming and ur muscles relaxed that 1 shot could make u quit right there....again a punch and an arrow obviously isn't the same but the tensing of the muscles has to play a role

I've never experienced it.

But we've butchered deer and found slugs under the hide in what would be the boileroom.

In the podcast with Dudley, Dr. Attia shares a story about a bullet migrating through a human body that's awfully crazy.

Can't rule anything out, personally.

Also discussed tension pneumothorax, caused by one hole in one side of chest cavity. And how it is certain death. And how a two hole one lung hit is survivable.

I bet more folks hearing that would likely call out the dog or drone after having an arrow appear to get stuck in a shoulder and not get great penetration.

Was also interesting to hear about how his wife is 100% on recovering animals shooting short draw low weight 3 blade coc. And rarely got two holes.

Like you know anything about metal on metal. Pshhhhhhh.

You know more about metal than Iron Maiden opening up for Slayer.
While that is pretty funny, I learn new stuff all the time and in the spectrum of what is metal I know very little but appreciate the compliment

Tig welding equates over to archery pretty well. Torch angle and how u hold the torch, consistent hold off, anchor points, keeping square and level, etc.....I knew all that stuff already but just had to implement it with my bow

I wasn't left with the impression that every one hole single lung hit will cause tension pneumothorax; depends on wether or not the hole remains plugged was my understanding of it. Still, a bad situation with likely a poor outcome.

I too thought that last bit about Dudley's wife's success rate without pass-thrus was interesting.

Hmm. Someone in the bowsite link I just posted mentioned a Steelforce broadhead bouncing off their quarry.

I've always thought highly enough of Steelforce, though I've never tried them. I definitely had them in the mix.
I Didn't read that thread. I would have to see a SF bounce off myself before I would believe it. Especially using today's bows from a heavier poundage bow. The eqipment is so much better now. Is SF even still around? I heard they sold and haven't seen them for sale in years. 25 years ago they were one of the better BH's. Back then that was just a simple example using a hide. Breaking bone wasn't even a topic. No one thought it was possible. Nor was FOC, arrow mass , the Ashby Reports or the Ranch Fairy. When I went on my speed craze 15 years ago, I definitely noticed a big loss in penetration and lost WAY more animals than is acceptable. Something needed to change. I did the research, made the necessary changes and haven't looked back. AND my arrow trajectory is flatter than it was when I was 25. For me it's a win win. Now they come in, I shoot them no matter what the angle. I'm not afraid of the shoulder. They pile up within sight usually. Always within hearing range. I've literally shattered the ball on a big 10 pt and shattered both shoulders on another big 10pt.. I have pics to prove it.

Steelforce is still around. IIRC, Schwacker bought them. If not them, one of the other mechanicals outfits. I've got a 3-pack of 300gr left bevels that I bought for my fairy dust experiments, but I wound up with a hand injury and crossbow so they're going on bolts instead. Seem stout enough, if not quite as stout as a Tuffhead or Grizzly or Cutthroat. Can't recall offhand if I got them from 3Rivers or Lancaster, but they're on the market if you want a 3-pack of whatever.

I can't quantify it but I can see it for myself. Years ago when Steel Force was 1st coming out, the owner came to the shop I worked at. He took a pc a of cowhide and pushed down on various Broadheads and same arrow. This was in days of aluminum arrows. Most of us shot something like a Easton 2117 or a 2216. You could watch the arrow bend until it punched through. The SF 2 blade didn't bend the arrow. . Cut the hide like a hot blade through butter. Their 4 blade almost the same results, the Trokar 3 blade Muzzy and the Thunderhead were almost a tie for 3rd but definitely had to bend a little bit before punching through, the 3 blade Rocky Mountain with a cone tip bent quite a bit and lastly the over the top expandable brought up the rear. That thing bent so much I thought is was going to be permanent. Big Hole though! Don't remember the brand. Rage was even around then. Anyway, I bought the SF on the spot and had excellent results for several years . For various reasons, I got away from them and tried a variety of BH's. Including over the top expandables. The results varied from good to poor. The poor results led me to do some research which led to Ashby. His research led me back to what I already knew. Heavier arrows and True COC BH's penetrate better. I should've never changed. I've had excellent result for 10 years 2 blade Helix's. This year I'm going to give their new 4 blade a try. I expect good results.

Hilarious! A mechanical BH company bought a COC BH company! At least, they bought a good BH design.

Those are some good BH's you mentioned, You'll have good results with all of them.

I just shot of 165lb boar this evening. Complete “pass through”. It went through the pig, stuck in the ground, and the arrow broke in half. Great blood trail. Hog ran 30 yards from in shot him.

My set up-
Bow - 70 lbs at 29 inches
Arrow - Rip Tko 300 spine w/ 75g ethics insert with 125 g deadmeat = 483 TAW and FOC 16-17%

Did I blow the knuckle? No that would have been poor shot placement.

Shot a nice buck last eve w/ View attachment 92306Rothhaar Snuffer 170 gr @ 20 yds. Easton Legacy w/200 up front, 525 TAW, 18% FOC. Massive hole every time and died in 3 seconds within 20 yds. First trip up a tree on my new Muddy Pros. New Orion Saddle came thru again. Sounds like a Bill Dance Promo.
Those old snuffers are bad medicine. Congrats!!

Congrats on the buck. Love it when they fall within sight! Back in the day, I had some some Snuffers as well. They looked mean. I couldn't get them to fly. Probably not their fault though. Most likely it was because I was young and my bow wasn't tuned.

I've been looking at the Orion as well. Probably a little too late for 2023. How do you like it?

Gemini is where it’s at.

Bought it used like new on here. I really like it. Killed a few critters w/it already. W/a well tuned shaft those 170 gr. fly perfectly.
