Why we're going to a membership

Your site. Your rules, and I 100% agree with and respect that. One of the other forums I visit requires a $5 fee for items that are sold in the classified section. Not sure how it works out for them, but it is another option.

I appreciate what it takes to run a site and the effort and money expended here. Not sure if I'll pony up or not, but it will not affect my time spent here either way.

That’s actually a really good idea. With the amount of buying/selling going on here that might actually result in more money taken in over a years time than an actual membership fee.

As someone who is going to pay, I would like everyone to be able to view what I'm going to sell. Like someone said on the other thread, once they pay me on paypal, it's hard for them to scam me

with the constant reminders from Kimber I don't think people pay as they should but if you could set it up to charge when someone starts a new topic in the classifieds you'd be on to something

I'd prefer not to go into details, but it's definitely in the thousands since I've started the site. This year the actual server expenses went up dramatically because I had to switch to VPS. I actually might have to upgrade my package again already. It's not just those costs too. For a long time I've had it set up as a LLC to protect myself so there are legal fees as well. In preparation for going to a membership I've been adding features to the site to try to add to the membership experience. When you put it all together, it adds up. And that is ignoring the amount of time I've put into this place. And the time that my wife gives me grief for spending here or working on it...

I appreciate all you've done here and continue to do. As I'm sure you already know, you can't and never will please everyone and I hope you don't stress yourself, your family, or your wallet out in trying to do so. I've been on here for about a year but I am 100% behind you on this as I am sure most of the older guys on here are as well. If certain individuals want to leave after being asked for a very small request for help from the people and site that has helped them in so many ways by providing a lifetime worth of information then so be it. I think you've done a great job in running this place and the fact that you have done everything you can to keep this place free FOR US for so long says a lot about you.

I have been saddle hunting a longtime and I came across this site by accident, actually after I had an accident at work. To me 15 bucks is a drop in the bucket for all the info that new and old saddlehunters can get from this site. Just think you paying for the information you're getting and to help fund this site. It's definitely one of a kind .

I have no dog in this fight but I feel like this might just drive some people more to Facebook saddle hunter pages.. hopefully not but theirs 4K+ people on saddle hunter classifieds and nearly 11k members on the SaddleHunter Facebook page. I love this site and never want to see it go away but it may just send people elsewhere in the long run and sending Facebook more ad revenue. Those that use tapatalk already see ads anyway unless they buy pro. Could always sell some ad space? I’ve never run a site but I know it can definitely cost more and more every year.
