XOP Climber seat as climber and platform?

That vid looks pretty good, might have to add one of these to my bag of tricks.

IMG_1050.JPG Any tips on foot straps?
I just did a length of webbing...
The knots can't get in the way of how it folds up for transport.

I plan to add a tether so I can't drop it and to be able to pull it up for tension adjustment at hunting height if needed.

I stood on this without a saddle on a few trees and leaned sideways and back and forwards.

It does rock side to side a bit but. But not really any more than my ameristep platform does. Didn't show any signs of slipping and felt good. I even stood on an outside corner with just one foot.

I don't know if that movement puts excessive wear on the belt maybe? Just trying to find a negative :)

Did you have a rope around the belt on your side of the tree to lock it tight? In this post or one of them recently theres a good view of how he ties rope for stirrups.

No....just on the tree as is. Totally fine. I'll try to find a smooth slick tree to experiment on

I just used a small bungee cord for foot loop...

I was thinking today about using two ameristep screw in steps on either side then tying the platform to them to prevent any chance of latetal movement...

Did you find movement to be a problem?
I only spent a few minutes on two different types of trees but it didn't seem like an issue.
I even climbed off of the platform and got back down on it at an angle and bounced a little...all ok.
I also tried intentionally running the strap a little loose so it angled down and it was still stable.

Without that connector you run the risk of platform flying down the tree at worst time.
Understood! But it definitely doesn't 'want to'. I thought about simply having a leash attached to the tether carabiner or even the tether loop. But I might try to find a on easy lock off on the seat's tree strap

I keep a leash on mine... no side to side movement not an issue, but the screw in steps will make it 100% solid, and also provide more places to rest feet on, and to use to help move around the tree...

I just thought about this....when you are close to platform height, you could jnstall a strap platform. Then continue your climb up until the XOP is flush (or close) to it. That would put the XOP strap higher than your steps and strap as added safeguard from falling down the tree.

Like when people screw in a bow hanger below the tether

Keep testing, this has my interest on several levels. Id even use it as a climb with sticks and hang type if its stable enough.

Good idea...

IMG_1053.JPG I just did a quick climb up and down. Not too bad for the first time. I just clipped an anchor to the foot loop in case I dropped the platform and I used a new long tether that just came in the mail and had my ATC with me.

Descent is slower than climbing. If you were impatient you could rappel down with a long tether. Having that self rescue option is pretty nice. Another option for self rescue would be an aider on a sling or another tether.

What's great about this method is that there is no need to rush. You are tethered and/or standing on a platform the whole way up so you are plenty comfortable and can stop whenever you want to rest or look around. And you can decide to stop and set up to hunt at any time.

The platform was super stable on this tree.

Sounds like you are happy with it...

it's also not much of a problem getting past branches because of how easy the lone wolf/XOP connects, and disconnects to the tree... i use my linemans belt while i get the tether over the branch.
