Your go to set up for warmth..

I think I will try the socks next year. My wife may divorce me when she sees my gloves and underwear I ordered from kuiu. Scheduled for delivery tomorrow while I'm working.

Those of you dealing with sweat and cold.. have you tried a premium layering system like Sitka, Kuiu, etc? I go with Sitka base layer top and bottom, timberline pant, and Kelvin lite jacket and any sweat dries immediately and I stay toasty.

I have been using under armour and/or Cabela's version with decent results. The fish stockings and wiggy's in general has me intrigued though. Definitely going to try their socks and possibly the leather boots. I'm not a big fan of rubber boots for late season Wisconsin. My feet sweat way too much.

I also have Sitka fantatic series I'm trying this year. The vest was amazing. Kept me warm with a t shirt and a Scentlok Savannah jacket in mid 40s temps. The SBW from tethryd worked well too. Just used jeans and Savannah series pants and was toasty in same temps

My advice is call Jerry (he's Wiggy and most likely will answer the phone) and talk directly to him. Tell him what you're going to be doing with them and ask him for the quietest material he can provide. For an additional $10 you can get them in Ducks Back (waterproof material). Some material is quieter than others. Ask him about sizing.
You can have him send you a swatch of material as well in you want.
@ricky racer I ordered those chaps on Nov 2. Still have not received any shipping notification. Only email was the receipt from initial purchase. Ive emailed them a few days ago and tried to call, still no response. With past dealing with Wiggy's, should I be concerned and cancel my order and dispute charge on CC?

No. Most items are made to order and not just pulled from the shelf. This is their busy time of the year but I'm surprised that he hasn't picked up the phone. Jerry usually answers the phone himself. Possibly they were closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. I'd try calling him again.

I gotta look into this myself. I pack my jacket and pants and head in just wearing a cheap camo pant and long sleeve t-shirt. I dress at/in the tree and about 30min after setting there for awhile I pull out my phone from inside coat pocket and its covered with moisture. Im assuming my junk base layer or lack of quality ones is causing me some issues. Ive also noted the HBS is great at trapping this moisture which doesnt help me either.

I bought this with a gift card, top and bottoms. I wore this against my skin, except for underwear. Not sure how much difference it made other than got hot walking out. lol

Ullfrot Woolpower

Is Wiggys the place to get the fish net stuff?

Cool. Good to know. Thought they were pre made. I will give it another week or so and give another call. Was probably closed for holiday. Thanks.

I'm checking out his sleeping bags, nice

Me too. I've got a Kelty that was a good bag when I first got it but now I freeze in it. All sleeping bags made are made in China or and equivalent and the cheap insulation used throughout the industry will break down in short order. You can't leave them in their compression bags or the degrade even quicker. Wiggy's is the only sleeping bags made in the USA. Their Lamilite can be compressed for years and still loft and work as good as new, even 20 years later. Wiggy's gear is vacuum sealed and are the survival kit used by the Air Force and Marines pilots when ejecting from fighter jets or bombers. Any other material compressed like that likely won't work due to loss of loft.

Also, if you were to get your bag wet, it won't work anymore. A Wiggy's bag will not only insulate you and keep you warm, it will dry out while you are sleeping. That is why most participants on the show Alone choose his bags. Those that didn't went home early if their bags got wet. They've got some good deals if you check out their specials.

I'm thinking about a hammock bag. I want to get into hammock camping and elk hunting

Did you get a shipping notice from Jerry yet? I ordered a sleeping bag and vest liner on Nov. 29th and got my shipping notice today.

Now I want full fishnet just to walk in the woods in that and boots...and pray that I pass many trail cameras.

Also thinking stops at gas station at 3am for coffee could get interesting.

I’m going to avoid visiting his website so I have some money for rent next year...

I haven’t read through the comments so forgive me if this is a repeat. Moisture management is key. You need to breath and have clothing that wicks moisture not just absorbs moisture. Wool is very popular because it’s still warm when wet. It will pull moisture from you but is slower at drying than synthetics. I feel that wool gives me a heavy clammy feel. Like being in a sleeping bag in a tent. You are warm and don’t want to get out but not dry.
I’ve said it before so y’all know I’m a fan of Kuiu. I started with their Marino Wool base layers. They are very comfortable and on camping trips I’ve wore them as a baselayer and never took them off for days and they don’t stink to me. Once I tried their synthetics, that’s all I use now. It gets rid of the moisture a lot quicker. I’ll change into a fresh pair every night because it isn’t as anti microbial as wool and will hold a scent more.
And for socks, alpaca keeps me drier and warmer than wool in my experience.

Now for design. Arm pit zips and thigh zips are the best thing since slice bread. With high wicking base layers and the ability to dump body heat quickly from outer layers has made a huge difference in moisture management. If I’m walking, my neck, pit and thigh zips are open not letting heat and moisture build up under my clothes. When I get in stand, I wait a moment to let my body temp cool down before zipping the vents up. I can wear my complete suit avoiding having to tote, change, and layer clothes in the stand. Just simply open vents and close vents like a thermostat to adjust temperature. Also all my base layers have a mock tee neck. Unzip my outer jacket and base layer and midlayer neck to add more ventilation, but once zipped up, they really seal and hold body heat.
I’m learning things all the time and new innovations are always coming out. My clothing is a lot lighter, drier, warmer and less restrictive and bulkier than I was 5 years ago.
Kuiu is over priced and very expensive, but it works. I haven’t tried other top brands. Took the plunge a few years ago and just stuck with one brand. I buy only on sales. Put items on my wish list and just wait for a good sale. Thanksgiving week is always their biggest sale. 20-50% off. I try to hold off and save for that week every year. If I get asked what I want for Christmas, it’s Kuiu gift cards. I don’t expect anyone to buy me a garment from them, but a few $10-$20 gift cards here and there help.

If you have a butt, the Kuiu underware sucks. Bend over once and instant plumbers crack. There isn’t enough material on the back end to stay up with movement. Good thing I decided to give them a try when they were in the outlet for $10 but I then tried the next size up and then another size up. Just got looser around the legs and waist. Still plumbers crack problem. I really wanted them to work. Probably why they are not availble any more. Really dropped the ball on that design. Only thing I was not satisfied with from them.

I've got to try these socks! This year my coldest day hunting I had my pack full of foot warmers. I have a fleece vest that has high pockets and I put warmers in them and I wear low cut half rubber half leather moccasins. I have Alpaca socks and use the foot warmers. The trouble is when the foot warmers don't get air they stop heating. My feet are what drive me from the stand! I've got to try these socks!!!!

Yup! He actually replied the next day that they were shipping out. Received them a few days ago and they are great, exactly what I was looking for. I will need to send them back, a little tight around the legs. Going up a size, but really like them, they will work great. Anyone that doesn't have a set of thermal bibs/HBS IWOM, etc should definitely check these out. Will be super easy to get on while in a saddle.
