My DIY ultra-light stick build....

Hey guys. I'm new here and actually found this forum from watching your YouTube videos Fling! Keep up the good work! Is there something I need to so in order to see pics on this site? Some of them come up but most do not. I would relly like to see what you have come up with as I am a welder/fabricator for a living and have a bunch of 6061 tubing just ready to be made into some climbing sticks.

Ditto on the sticks, lol, for pictures you have to upload them to the site, a lot of folks have used external photo sharing sites and the links get broken, which sucks when you're trying to read DIY threads and can't see any pictures, hopefully red can fix it, but I think it will be difficult because the photos are on other sites. @redsquirrel am I close?

Well that sounds promising...

Here is a pic of Flinginairos stick I had saved for future build references. I have more but cant locate them currently.

I know the angle is 6061 T6, 1"×2"x0.375" and they are cut at 10". The square tube is 6061 T6, 1"x1"x 1/16" cut at 24". I believe step spacing is 22".

If you order the aluminium from Onlinemetals.com they sell 6061 T6 angle but not in a 1"x2" dimension. You would have to buy the 2"x2" and cut it down.

Seems pics on the site are broken right now. I have to look into it over the weekend.

They are working on Tapatalk for me. I just saved them again. Here you go!

Thank you sir! They look great! I also like yours as well! Are your steps 3/8" Or 1/2" thick and did you machine a slot on the back side to keep it locked in on the tubing since you only have one bolt through the step? How thick is the lone wolf standoff? It looks to me around 3/4" or so? Sorry for so many questions.

@redsquirrel the picture thing might be a browser thing, I was just at work using IE and the pictures in this thread weren't showing up, I'm at home now on Chrome and it's working just fine. I don't know man, good luck, we're all counting on you, lol!

Mine are based off of Garret Prahls/Bowhunter15s 1.5lb sticks. The steps are made from 6061 T6 1.5"x0.375"x10". There is a slot cut in the back to keep them from turning. The slot is about half the thickness. I do not have a cnc router table or an endmill so I used my tablesaw with a high tooth count blade to cut the dado slots. I also made a cheap crosscut sled for my tablesaw to make the dado cuts. The tread on the top of my steps were done the same way. I also machined top end caps<<<(6063 scrap I had laying around) and reinforced behind(inside the 1"tube) the steps with some leftover 6061 cut at 1.5"x7/8"x0.375".Bowhunter15 has plastic end caps on top for weight reduction. With the reinforcements mine still weight under 2lbs each.(1.75lbs each with amsteel straps). I need to just do a good write up on mine, but its basically Bowhunter15s and I used a tablesaw instead of a cnc router. Maybe I'll name them, "My Not So Lightweight Reinforced Climbing Sticks"!!!

Nice. I like the table saw idea

Thanks brother! If the Army didnt teach me anything else, they taught me to improvise. I believe the lonewolf standoffs are 1/2" thick.

Thanks again! I will have to see what I come up with. I might have to buy the standoffs because I don't have a plasma table and they would be a pain in the butt cutting out with a band saw. I got some ideas that I might try and if they work I will post up a build thread.

Thank You for your Service!!!

Is there someone that sells a double step to swap out the standard one side step on to the top of the lone wolf? I have the LW sticks and thought that having a double step on just the top stick would be a huge advantage for hanging my predator when it comes in.

I think the problem has resolved itself. The best kind of problems!

I dont think so. I dont have any LW sticks or I would have tried to make a step to fit.

How big and how far apart would you drill holes if you were to drill holes? What's the rule of thumb on that?
