So I have been looking for brackets

Wish I had one of those awesome home gym setups like was posted in the physical fitness thread. I'd hang 200 lbs of plates off a bracket and start removing one of the angled sides to see if/when it breaks.

I have 8 of them at home that I haven't had time to mess with. I plan on using them for presets but, one idea that occurred to me to get them to pack together was to cut off one of the angled sides. This would allow them to nest together. I am not sure if they would still be strong enough with support on only one side but, for less than $5 a piece I thought about trying it.
I thought of that too. May have even suggested that on here once.

My 5 showed up yesterday. I think these could be awesome. I'm planning to play with them to see if I can make them a decent run and gun option. Was thinking a zippered sleeve out of a stretch material may keep them quiet during transport. Will provide updates if I find something that works amazing...or decent for that matter.

I glued some felt on the sides. They work well to quiet them down but longevity may be a challenge. So I took a pair of old dress socks and cut them in half, giving me four tubes. Slide them on for transport. I keep them on when setting them up and pull them off only when the strap starts to tighten. Works like a charm, and only add a whopping twenty seconds to my setup time. I plan to use them for the run and gun set up as well as pre-sets.

I have found them to be super comfortable.

I have not tried the OCB, but here is my latest mod for the mobile setup. This way I just have to hook the strap and not have to worry about threading the thing in the dark. I am not worried about ratchet noise because you can silence them by pulling on the tabs as you tighten. You just have to figure out the order in which to them.

Thanks for this @Peterk1234. I’ve got a predator platform on the way, but I ordered 5 of these to see if I like a ring of steps platform.

You guys are getting to me. One of something just doesn’t seem like enough when it comes to saddle hunting gear.

Oh that's great. Well, I am gonna have to pull the trigger on a couple of these.

Finally got my brackets set up today with a normal ratchet strap. It’s a solid option! The brackets grab the tree well. I put as much side pressure as I could on them and could not get them to budge side to side. I could feel some downward give when I moved step to step, but well within my comfort zone. I didn’t weigh it, but 5 brackets plus a strap are super light.

This method is probably best for those trying to get into saddle hunting cheap and easy. Or for those of us who just want options.

I agree completely. I super glued some exercise mat to the sides of each bracket and now they are very quiet when you carry them.

Is there longer brackets like that out there? I have big clod hoppers?

We talked a couple days ago about using wild edge stepps for a platform. Now that you've had time to experiment with these brackets for a while which will you use for run and gun setups? I really like this idea by the way!

That is a great question. I am going to try the wild edge steps though. The brackets are probably a bit faster to setup and I do not have to worry about placement as much. However, the steps pack better for the hike and the climb up the tree. One last hing dangling off of me while I climb is important. I have gotten pretty fast at setting steps. I do it in fifteen seconds if I am perfect maybe forty five seconds if I really have a hard time for some reason. So a minute and half to set up the platform worst case scenario is not the end of the world to me.

I am not sure which one is more comfortable. The brackets have a fairly large surface, especially if you space it in such a way the you can place one foot on two of them. However, the steps have a lot of surface area, probably more than the brackets. It may not look it but it really does work well for spreading the load of your weight. I will have to hunt several hours in both before I figure that one out.

I have some spare steps, so I plan to set a pair up as a permanent stand as well. I have enough corner brackets to set up a half dozen permanent stands, so they will get heavily tested this season. I am going to have at least seven permanent stands set up this year because these methods are so inexpensive. I have never had more than two spots, using traditional. Quite frankly, each method is so cost effective that by next year I will not have to run and gun because I will have twenty trees prepped with stands :)

I can see what you are saying about packability of the brackets. I like how you will try both for prepped spots. I'm interested to try these brackets. Do you use 4 or 5 per strap?

I've been using the stepps for a platform. I really like them but its still fun to try new things!

I am using four. It seems to be plenty for most of the trees I am setting up on. I think my biggest tree is around 16 inches in diameter.

I have been watching the platform threads with interest as well but I just do not see the advantage, unless they are just a lot more comfortable. Turning around on a small platform for a behind the back shot seems like a lot more effort and movement than just leaning back and turning your upper body. The ring of steps just seem so versatile.

I agree. I haven't been able to convince myself to try a platform. I'll stick with the ring of steps for now.

How much do these weigh? And how wide are they? They look huge in the pics.
I probably wouldn’t consider these over a platform for run-n-gun, but a few pinch point trees pre prepped might not be too bad for trying them out.
