Where the skys are so blue!
I accidentally ordered some of that material because I didn’t realize it was tent type material. Decided against trying to make a saddle with it because it doesn’t breath very well. It is just too hot in the south and sounded like the beginning of a bad case of swamp@ss.
"This would make an awesome tent" was my first thought. I kind of figured it might just be a prototype.

Definitely seeing a hammock and tarp for Backcountry hunts

Can I ask what climbing method and platform you use? And what pack you use to pack it all in? After reading that WTH article it's clear that you go further than the average dude, so that really piqued my interest.

Thanks

Sorry for a tardy response (my son was born 2/17 and I’ve been a little distracted). I’ve been using a two-rope climbing technique primarily for the last 3 seasons. Search “Sam’s Stealth Climb” on YouTube. I need to do an updated video now that I’ve learned a lot more. I just have an off the rack back pack from basspro I believe.

Anybody have any opinions as to a saddle made if 1.1oz nylon ripstop? Two yards of it in Realtree camo somehow wound up in my mailbox.
Hi guys!
Ripstop has a few big advantages. It doesn't stretch. It packs down to nothing. And it is really really light.
And with proper weight distribution, it is very strong.
But as with all Saddle stuff....weight distribution is key for comfort.

If your ripstop isn't treated SilNylon (waterproof), I don't think it will cause a huge sweating issue. No more than sitting in a cloth seat and probably better.

Like justsomedude said. It’s hammock material and as long as it’s not the sinylon it breaths. I’m sleeping in one tonight and feel the breeze on my back. Only draw back will be noise. But I don’t know if it’s noisy enough for a deer to hear.

Congrats Sam! My twin brother's son was born 2/18 so I can imagine quite vividly how the last 2 months have been! I've seen that video and was wondering if you were still using your method. Cool stuff man.

Thanks!

Just to follow up, I got my lovely wife to pull out her old Kenmore and stitch me up a saddle. I bounced around in the 1.1 oz ripstop and it felt fine. I would definitely wear a rc harness and most likely plan on replacing it every season or two, but for me and my style of hunting, it's a winner.

So I'm playing with a hunk of fleece ($5@Walmart) and I'm wondering what is the best way to use...stretch going side to side or front to back. Also, is everyone using a single layer of fleece , or doubled over?

Polar fleece is like a double layer. Less stretch and a lot stronger. I tried a light weight fleece and it stretched like pantyhose.
I position the stretch from tied end to tied end.

I picked up 2 yards of camo fleece at Wally World.

One side has much stretch, the other side does not.

Do I put the stretchy side from left to right or top to bottom (where the bridge is attached)?

I would think top to bottom, but not sure.

Thx!

So I watched a video of a fleece one bien made. Looks like all it consists of is folding it putting a couple of knots in the end and the attaching a bridge????

David Toms mentioned that there was a step by step video on how to make one besides the one that he did. Can someone point me in the direction of it?

So not really a fleece saddle, this just shows the folds and knot. However, I just ordered a yard of ripstop nylon and am just making pretty much a small hammock seat:

So are you going to use the entire yard to make the hammock seat?
