Hunting Bike?

I am interested in the handlebar weapon rack that is proven. I never found one that I really liked. Last year I ended up holding by bow over top front reflector.
I have used these for at least 10 years now on my bike for carrying my bow on the handlebars and they work great.

I realize they are not available on that link but i would think you should be able to find them somewhere if you search.

Who needs a rack or trailer, real hunters just carry it out! Seriously, the one pic is a really well made option, assuming it was a DIY project.

The trailer is a kid trailer like I showed a while back with everything stripped off frame and metal shelving put across the frame. Decent job of it, but the metal shelving is heavy steal, I'd find a lighter option. The reason I always left mine stock is it gives you a dry place for stuff if it starts raining. Something like that might work for the kayak though.

So, just got this in.

I think if I'd have found it before I dialed in my current pack I'd love it. But I'm going to have to change a LOT if I go with this. Pros are:

No more Doyle's. Just carry the bow on your back.

No more kneepads. Just strap around tree. And the pockets are pretty easy to get to once you're in the tree.

Hands free, simple. No need to install anything on pack, and it Carrie's pretty well. Plenty of room for my bare bones gear.

Cons are:

Loud as two toddler skeletons wearing chip bags tap dancing on an old tin roof. Seriously. Nowhere near as quiet as my fleece pack. Loud fabric, loud zippers. Bleh.

Gotta ditch my trophyline pouch. No room to really carry saddle in pack, and it blocks access to my fannypackish trophyline. Gotta find another way to carry my tether and bolts. Maybe add some pouches to the kidney belt???

Pockets are tough to access on the fly. You'd have to take the pack off, remove the weapon, and then get in pockets.

We'll see. I've got time to tinker.

This is the model I have from game plan gear. It is noisy of you're not careful, but like I said in another thread it was heavy and bulky in a tree after a while. Walking with it and a climber sucked and I went to a smaller pack. Think I may dig it out and try it again now that I'm saddle hunting. If you need a home for that trophyline pouch pm me lolScreenshot_20190625-222024_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20190625-222032_Samsung Internet.jpg

Having been out several days now I am glad I got a fat tire bike. I would have wiped out several times going over cattle guards, sand and loose gravel. This thing is a beast but it speeds up access and goes across just about anything.

I may wish I'd have gone fat tire. I'll take it up to Oakmulgee this weekend. 40,000 acres of hills that I intend to cover in about 3 days. Next week we'll take it to out in some sandy stuff. I have to say though, after putting 7-9 miles on it dang near every day, I'm growing to like it. Don't intend to do nearly as much walking this year as I have in past years.

When you say "beast," what do you mean? Heavy? Hard to pedal? Or just a beastly, ground-devouring machine?

it is heavy, it is harder to pedal -but it will go places a normal MT will not go. Sand just sucks - but I was able to pedal though it no way on a MTB you sink in it too much. I wish i could use a fat tire Ebike as that would be great. but I just embrace the suck of pedaling up hills through sand and remind myself - its a health thing :) The fat tires also help with back tire losing traction and going out from under you in sand, gravel, loose material.

Gotcha. We have some sandy roads, but it's not deep. Usually you can ride the tire tracks and be on hard pan.

I'd love an e-bike, but only if I was the only one allowed to ride one! Guess I'll keep humpin' up the local hills as training!

under normal trails/roads I would think a reg MT bike would be quicker/easier? I ride a ton of cow trails and power lines for access and I can hit patches of loose sand frequently. I mainly got mine to run trail cameras quicker as i don't care how much i sweat (part of life down this way 11+ months out of the year) but now, due to the time savings, I plan on using it hunting. i will say that i see more deer now also but don't buy into the thing that deer wont spook, so far I have not had oen deer "watch" me go by - they all ran like crap when i got up on them - so i think we will really have to pay attention to access just like when walking in.

@DaveT1963, yeah, we've got powerlines and gas lines here in a few spots, but they're almost never maintained well enough to ride them. Head high brush in most places, and the low areas are pitcher plant bogs. I'm sure I'll find something I wish I had a fat tire for at some point though.

As far as deer spooking, you're probably in areas they aren't expecting you if you're riding utility right a ways and cow trails. I know on these WMA roads they hardly bother to look. They're used to trucks going by. I actually rode by a turkey in a cotton field this morning on mine.

I am almost always in, and using access to areas they are not used to seeing people/traffic use - I try to make that a habit ;)

Interesting observation about deer, I was wondering how it would affect their behavior. I am going to try to experiment my approach on my own property. They aren’t scared of my tractor, so we shall see
