Same ol same old DIY platform and LW stick rope mod

I know it’s been done a lot, because I’ve read around enough to land on doing one of my own. I ordered the 9” platform post, two brackets, end caps, and 36’ of amsteel from DanO. I’ve also got a LW seat kit on the way and a 4th stick, the plan is to mount the seat kit to the parts from Dan and use a LW cam strap for the platform strap. Then some 6’ rope mods for the sticks. Then a sweet sponge on paint job. Any suggestions?

Lots of threads around here to help you out. One thing I would suggest you do is check the relation of the top stand off bolt to the holes in your platform before drilling your platform mounting hole. If they don't line up the platform won't fold flat. I overlooked this and got lucky, it just barely clears.

Brought it to work this morning to attach the brackets. Went all the way to the ends, which may have been a bad idea. I’m hoping to get the platform as close to center as possible, the seat kit should be here today and I’ll lay it on there to decide where it works best

What did you use for the pad that the screw hits?

BTW, my stand offs aren't as close to the ends as yours and my platform hole is above center (platform itself is very close to center when cammed into place) and as you can see I have almost zero clearance on the upper nut. I suspect you will have to place the platform above or below center to clear the top stand off nut.

Amsteel rope mods done this evening. As expected the first one wasn’t near as pretty as the fourth but they are all done and I like the weight savings and look of it so far. I’ll try them out tomorrow after I finish the platform.

Very nice setup

Just checking how it will fit together, going to drill my hole and check fitment in a little while. If I’m happy with it I’ll paint it up and let it dry then final assembly

I'd be concerned with the top pulling away from the tree with the platform mounted below center like that. I would raise it up so it closer to center when deployed.

I was actually just looking at it with that same thought and I think I’m going to mount it higher up. Thanks Dan!

Just got to pull it back apart and paint it now. I’ll probably start on my lunch break.

So after I had already jb welded a 1/8” strip of aluminum to the tube I got my seat kit and it had the plastic contact pad with it. So I installed it without the pad and noticed the screw was kind of noisy when I cammed it over, then it was leaving marks in the metal. So I decided to trim the lips off the pad and drill a hole for the dowel to go in, the hole is a tight fit for the dowel and I used a little super glue on the dowel so it doesn’t pop out in transit. Much quieter. Then I painted it. Nothing too extravagant, just didn’t want to do a solid color. Now it’s back together and I’m really thinking I should get a different strap to use for it because it’s kind of hard to feed the strap through the buckle on this LW strap.

Had a set of LW stick quivers that wouldn’t work with my millennium tree stands that I decided to try and stick on my platform. Fits perfectly. So here is how I plan to carry it all quietly, just need a way to attach it to my pack or a sling. And after today I really want to change the strap on the platform. I also weighed the sticks and platform, 14.5lbs total, seems a little heavy. Time to cut the sticks and make an aider?
