I have several sets of the steel climbing sticks. The kind that slide together to make one long stick that go up the tree and I have several old steel lock-ons. I took the top of the lock on off and cut it right below where the top V bracket bolts on. It will then sit right on top of the top step of the climbing sticks. I was able to get 3 bolts in it to secure the lock on seat and partial post to the top of the sticks. This will allow the seat to flip up so you can climb passed it and then flip it back down to stand on it. I also left the two attachment points on the seat half where you would actually hang the lock on from so I can get an extra ratchet strap to get it all tight to the tree. I'll try to post pics later when I get home. Just thought I'd throw this idea out there to those who can set presets and have old steel sticks and lockons they no longer use.

Sounds pretty awesome!! I can't wait to see it!! I have probably 8-10 of those climbing stick setups!

I have tried and try to post pics on here and every time it says file too large I have no idea how to do it
Easiest is to upload using Tapatalk app.
or
Take a picture. Open it on phone and screenshot it. Crop the edges if you choose then save to photos. Never had a screenshot that wouldn’t upload.

Maybe that's the ticket. I'll try Tapatalk app after work. I did post a few on the Saddle hunter FB page last night.

It's a miracle.. I can finally post a pic.

Ok. Here is my preset platform that I've made. If it doesn't rain all effen day tomorrow I'll test it out. I left the "EARS" that you would originally hang the lock on with still on so I can run another ratchet strap to tighten it down to help with side pressure... let me know what you think. 20200103_183045.jpg20200103_183032.jpg

That’s slick. Good job. If it squeaks, add a handful of Vaseline to all of the attachment points.

Bad news... I just went out to try it out. You would not believe how much the top of that stick will flex. I have to come up with something to tighten the lock on portion to the tree..... like a stand off. It would have to be the same size as the one on the stick. Back to the drawing board... 9 months to figure it out or just drill a ring of bolts to use as a platform.

Try attaching the ratchet strap to the seat and tightening in the upright position. When you step on it will cam down and hold crazy tight

The stand offs on the climbing sticks keep the seat maybe 5 inches off the tree. There is no way to tighten it without making a standoff on the seat post.

Got it! I took the stand off from the bottom section of sticks and put it up top where the platform is. It is solid now. Maybe a piece of pressure treated wood to make the platform a little bigger and a bolt in the tree on each side to step around the tree. 20200106_104657.jpg20200106_103247.jpg20200106_103319.jpg

Not sure on the weight. I have no problem connecting all the sticks together and putting them up in one piece.

I saw this on Facebook today...I'm a little curious about the safety of getting onto the platform since it's directly above the steps. Anyone got video of that yet?

That one thing nice abut this setup. The platform lifts up. I stay on the last step with my right foot and flip the platform down with my left and step on. I hook my tether on before doing so.
