I don't wear any pouches on my saddles. If I need to stand on my platform and turn with my back to the tree for a weak side shot, I don't want pouches scraping up against the tree making noise. The only thing on my saddle is the tether, bridge and maybe my lineman's belt.Dump pouches do add a little fiddle factor. I’m still thinking the comfort is worth it. I might try to figure a different way to carry my rapel rope. If that wasn’t in a dump pouch, I think it would be more manageable.
Feel it's important to clarify why the small fits me better. As Mentioned I'm not a "small guy". (6' 2", 210ish pounds) My waist ranges between a 36 and 38. However I have no backside. I ran it all off during my 26 years in the Army. So, no junk in the trunk or hips to pinch! The medium fits however the slightly smaller small allows the bridge loops to be wider. This allows me better maneuverability and rang of motion while tethered in.I just had a visit from @Nugget to swap some Treehopper gear and he already owns a medium Recon, but he tried my small Recon. He immediately liked the fit better than the medium. And he is not a small guy, so the small may be more suitable for a lot of guys than the medium is. Mark will also offer a large, but a guy will have to be pretty big for the large to fit properly.
And as perfect as the Recon already is, I still prefer my bungee belt mod better.
Nugget liked it, too. He' gonna make one for himself.
For all day comfort, slings are the bomb. Its really hard to comprehend just how comfy they are until you hang from one for a dawn to dusk hunt.

I've never moved on from my Evolution (comfortable once I got it set for me). This year I think I may move on and am leaning towards the Recon (I like its packability). Although I am being indecisive with the Phantom or H2 also. I am kind of waiting to see what Tethrd comes out with for the Eberhart sling before I pull the trigger. Would you suggest the Recon over the options listed above? (Evolution vs Recon vs Phantom vs H2)
I'VE had an evo, and a more "modern" kestrel. I would say they recon is more like the evo in that is is adjustable by section. That is what i loved about the evo. What I didn't was the bulk. Im not sure you'll find it more comfortable than the evo, but I do think you will find it comparable, and more comfortable than single section saddles. Whew, Its good to hear someone else say that. I was beginning to think I was the only one who didn't want stuff hanging off my saddle. I keep mine clean for the exact same reason.I don't wear any pouches on my saddles. I’ve been knocking around the idea about a backup. It’s going to be either the recon or the ESS. Price will be the decider. Hoping the ESS is reasonable, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

I don't either. Tether and linemans are in cargo pockets on my pants.Whew, Its good to hear someone else say that. I was beginning to think I was the only one who didn't want stuff hanging off my saddle. I keep mine clean for the exact same reason.
I carry a pack for the extra stuff and hook a dump pouch to it so my tether and lineman's are accessible.

I'm with you. I got my recon and a guidos. Polar opposites and each fits niche perfect, but are verstile. It there was a skinny jx3, the guidos would be replaced.I am not sure what I like better at this point. The phantom or H2 or recon. I will tell you in December.
At the moment I know the H2 and recon are comfortable on short sits and more economical and light enough.
My guess is I will use the recon more

I'm tall and narrow(32 waist) I was swimming in the jx3, but loved the features and quality. The guidos is just more streamlined to my body.I like the Jx3 better than a guido. I will and do use it a lot. Not sure how a skinny Jx 3 will fit a 36 waist and wide shoulders
I used a flex last fall but I want a less bulky option
