I've climbed/repelled twice now with the safeguard and I'm having a little trouble on the way down with the rope coming over the side. Anyone else have this issue or am I doing something wrong?

Same problem. Still worked but was obviously adding extra friction to the system so I would just try to hold it in place. Interested to hear what others can recommend. Same issue occurred with both 9 mm and 10 mm Sterling HTP.

Mine does the same thing. I’m considering a different device for rappelling and just using safeguard for ascending srt.

Nice. I’ve been playing around with a Kong Oka descender that’s pretty versatile.

I'm also thinking it has to do with the bridge on our saddles and how it goes in the carabiner, unlike a RCH.

I have the same issue if I use an autoblock as a back up to the safeguard. I've quit using a back up with it. I can't recommend this, but it is what I am doing. I use a leather glove and hold the tag end and the mainline in my right hand above the safeguard and operate the lever on the safeguard with my left hand. I can open the safeguard completely and use pressure with my right hand to control my descent. Close lever when I want to completely stop.

May have to try this.

Mine does the same. I just go with it. It doesn’t effect anything.

When I rappel with my safeguard, I actually prefer to wrap my tag end around the plate. It tends to help me control my descent a little better. You can see that in action here:

I think it has to do with the fact that it was designed to be used with the rope going back the way it came (belay device) instead of sliding down a straight line.

I use a leather palmed (belay) glove and I open the Safeguard all the way and control the tag end side of the rope with my hand close to the device to manage descent speed and line lay over the end.

X6. It almost always folds over the plate to the front. Literally hundreds of rappels on the same rope with no obvious wear on either the rope or the Safeguard.
