G’day Everyone
I’ve been watching many a YouTube clip and looking at websites, listening to podcasts and reading lots about saddle hunting. I can’t find anything on it in Australia. However I’m keen to get into it as I’ve also only recently started bow hunting as well, I’ve been a rifle hunter since I was a kid. I’ve already picked up heaps of tips and plenty of DIY ideas from this forum in only a week.

cheers everyone

Welcome from Michigan! You're not the only saddle hunter in Australia, there are others, not sure if they are on this forum though.

Welcome from SE Wisconsin. Australia is a very beautiful country! I loved my visits there. A few more places I have to visit there yet though.

I can only speak of the states I’ve lived in. You don’t require a licence to own a compound or recurve bow, however you need a licence for a crossbow. You need a licence for any type of firearm, air rifles included, a special class of licence is required to own a pump action rifle/ shotgun. A higher class of licence is required for a semi automatic rifle/shotgun.
In Queensland you can only hunt on private property, deer are classed as feral animals so no game licence is required to hunt them.
I currently live in Victoria, here we are required to have a game licence to hunt deer. There isn’t a tag system for any of the deer species, we can hunt them all year round pretty much. We have state forrests( public land) that we can hunt in Victoria as well as private property.
That’s a fairly basic explanation of hunting in Aus.

Hello JASmith
I plan on hunting all our small game animals such as rabbits, foxes and then up to pigs, goats and all of our deer species. We have Sambar, fallow, rusa, red, hog deer and chital (axis).

G’day Knik
Information overload is an understatement
I think I could spend 24/7 on the forum and still not read it all. My wife has lost me to another type of hunting that I’m quickly becoming obsessed with
