Hickory Creek Koolaid

I think you may win the rodeo with that one @Vtbow
Just kidding, I'm just jealous..
We take what opportunities we have around here...not such a dense population. Made for an easy drag too :)

I hear ya. After going a year without a venison meal I'm beginning to forget what it tastes like.

If something brown walks in range of my Hickory Creek it is getting whacked!

One of my first deer i shot did 2 cartwheels after I hit it. I was able to carry out my climber, gun and gear all without a drag. Thing was smaller then my dog. Cant beat the eats. My wife did mention we have a few extra doe tags and the smaller ones are soooo tender.
Congrats bud

If its brown its down this year is my motto too this year. Anyone tried Judo tip yet?

One new thing I discovered as I take the Mini on actual hunts is that I've never unloaded it before without firing it.

Kind of a daunting prospect. I assume I just pull the arrow off the string loop and then de-cock it? Gives me the heebee-geebies putting my hand inside the string travel path!

Its not bad. Just keep watching the cams and make sure you're keeping the string in line. If you derail it don't freak out...Jerry has a video on putting string back on. Takes about 5 minutes.

I have not derailed it yet, but my father has..scared the crap out of him, it was an easy fix.

I'll take squirrel stew over deer stew any day and twice on Sundays. It just tastes better.

If anyone is looking for a cheaper scope upgrade I went with the Excalibur deadzone was $100 on eBay sighted in easy like my other excal scope. I’m hitting really good from 20 to 60 with the marks in the scope

Yup. I'm up in Alburgh and it didn't rain here fortunately. Yesterday I drove through the pouring rain to get here but it let off enough for my evening sit to be reasonable.

No deer sightings yet. Lots of squirrels though! @Nutterbuster would be having a field day!

Good luck!

Good luck!
Not my proudest photo share, due to both the size of the deer, and the shot placement.

But I will have venison meals this winter and the HC Mini helped me get it done. I had a very narrow window of opportunity and the Mini took care of business.

Now to get after some adult deer.

It seems just about perfect for those tight shots and up in the saddle. Good job!

Congrats! GOTTA take the opportunities you're given. Itll be nice and tender :)

How are u guys carrying in the woods? Walking holding the back grip and holding at your side? Feel like it needs a single point sling for walking and being able to go hands free if needed but still being accessible for a shot.

I was walking out yesterday and thought how can I sling the mini? The buttstock was right near the right front shoulder strap of my pack and I already had a carabiner there for attaching something which I don't remember what so I just clipped the buttstock to it. It put all the weight on my backpack strap and I just steadied the bow with my right hand. It made the long walk out much more pleasant. There, single point sling, impromptu. I don't know if I would carry this way with an arrow loaded since my leg or foot may be in the line of fire.

Scope let me down a bit on Sunday. Not a major let down mind you, but one of the things I switched to a scoped crossbow from a peeped regular bow was improving last light shootabilty.

Had a doe stop broadside at 15 yards in an open shooting lane in half-leafed hardwoods with two minutes on the clock. Raised up the Mini and nada. Can't see her. No chance. Deer bounded off safely.

If I look through my Nikon Monarchs at that time I can see everything no problem. I yearn for a scope that will do the same thing. Maybe that's just not possible, but that's the second time in only 8 years of hunting I've lost a legal shooting hours harvest to low light. I get so few opportunities in my state (and at my skill level) that this really disappoints me. Easily 80% of my deer sightings are in the last half hour.

I love the Mini and I'm sure it would have taken that deer home with me if the scope would just gather just a little more light at that critical moment of truth.
