I was wondering if I could cut the metal d rings off the saddle and put am steel continuous loops in their place.

What size Amsteel did you plan to use? A continuous loop on each side? I would say 3/16” (5400 lbs ABS) would be the minimum I would trust for that application. To get the proper bury length (2 Fids) for a 3/16” Amsteel continuous loop you are at almost 16” bury. That’s a big continuous loop.

Why not just make an Amsteel utilibridge like on the Tethrd Phantom? That’s what I did on my Recons.

If you are dead set on having a loop on each side, I would go with Improved soft shackles. I made a 3/16” soft shackle that has 2” opening. And it would be rated north of 10,000 lbs mbs.

I would caution cutting off the d rings. They are absorbing a lot of what will end up being hip pinch if you remove them.

If you want soft attachments, consider selling the ESS and getting a saddle with soft attachments.

Ya Im not sure why you would want big metal rings, but John said in his video its the key to comfort. He has had plenty of years to test things. I also agree, best to sell than to mod it into something you might not like and be worthless.

What kind of utility bridge did u make?

Where I ordered it:

The video to watch:

I specifically picked this style of adjustable amsteel bridge because you can make the splices a little bigger on the rings or super tight. I left it a little loose so the bridge can still easily pivot/adjust on the rings (like the design). Still unsure if the bridge actually does thisor not though lol

So has anyone had issues with the d-rings riding up on your chest? Mine have rendered the range finder chest pocket on my Sitka jacket useless!

You could always sell it and buy a Recon....:D
Naw...it’s super comfortable and I like everything else about it so I’ll probably keep it... I’m just trying to figure out if I shorten or lengthen the bridge would it keep the d-rings lower? I’m trying to avoid messing with it too much while I’m hunting.

Only way to change the position is to change the tether height and your body. Sounds like you have a high tether and or long tether and sitting really low.

I do tend to sit pretty low and kneel against the tree. Tether is about nose height?
