I go the fleece muff with the chemical warmers as well, however....the older I get the less and less I like hunting below freezing. generally if it gets below 20 deg I'll stay in bed. lol. I started playing around with a pop up blind and a wood gasifier stove for heat, but its just too much cramp. so for me its hunt hard October - November, early December when its warm enough. I've learned that by the second week of Dec (2 weeks into gun season up here) that the deer have been 'well educated' by the gunners and have gone mostly nocturnal anyway.

NJ goes to mid February. Come January when it is real cold, it is me, my archery tackle, Coleman heater, comfy chair inside a ground blind. Usually not too far from my truck where the extra propane is at.

When it has been that cold, I generally stay on the ground...and maybe bring a Rifle.

I've been using a lightweight glove and hand warmers inside my fanatic jacket (Sitka, built in hand muff) and I'm perfect in temps as low as 12-15°F but they do make pretty much the same muff that's a strap on version (downside, it's $99...) with Wind-stopper. Might get lucky on eBay, but everyone I know that has one would never sell it in a million years so their usually new on eBay. Just my opinion.

So many of us use muffs for duck hunting that have 12 ga. shell holders on them. It would be handy to have scent containers and wind checkers shape like shells to fit in the holders.

Part of my problem has been that I am keeping my bow in hand with an arrow nocked most of the time. I shoot recurve and don't have an arrow holder. I tried one a while back and it didn't work on that bow. Might try again.

I haven't found a warm glove that I love for holding the bow without getting too cold. I just bought some Kuiu guide gloves that will be my main glove. They are a midnight soft-shell glove with leather palms. Perfect for trees. I have merino liners I can wear under them.

I tried Arctic Shield GloMitts. Not amazing but they work...they get crunchy when it gets near freezing. They are easy to flip open (magnet holds them open). You can throw a warmer in them and survive.
Might try a GloMitt over the Kuiu.

I have a bad BassPro hand muff. Might get a new good one with WindBlock. Any Recommendations? The Kestrel seems muff friendly.

I have a pair of Air Force arctic mitts with the thick wool inserts. I used them ground hunting in snow and they were great.
The Mitts are attached together with a line...you can stick your hand under your arm or between legs etc and quickly remove them and have them hanging in place (around you neck or from the tree) I even practice shooting with the left one on but you can't hold your arrow with your finger...(Recurve).
They are heavy though... 1.5#

JSD I have Arctic Shield stuff and you are right it does get noisy when the temp drops but it is extremely warm as well. I had those mitts as well but they mysteriously disappeared when I was hunting with my buddy Jim in PA???? It was odd because he had a pair the next time we hunted but couldn't remember where he got them...

Like a lot of guys in real cold weather I have switched to a muff with hand warmers in them and lighter gloves. It was cheaper than moving to South Carolina or buying Sitka gloves... Just saying....

I'm curious to see how the Kuiu Guide gloves do. I shredded Firstlite and Minus33 merino gloves. If they are damp and touch anything....

I have a nice pair of mountain hardwear softshell, but again...only built for hiking.

The Kuiu guides have a leather palm

I use a muff too but have found that after trying several brands none quite work as great as I'd like. My biggest issue is the size of the opening on the muff. Usually I can get my hand in but not any sleeve material from jacket, which is annoying because then my sleeves end up bunching up/moving up my arm and I end up with cold spots on my wrist.

I have tried Sitka incinerator, two different cabelas brands one which was the mt050, and now an icebreaker muff. The icebreaker one is the nicest I've owned, but still have the same problem.

I really wish they make the size of that opening larger or at lest adjustable.

JSD I hope the Almanac is right the last time we had above average snow we had a great winter bow season. D rek that is true on really long sits that sleeve bunching up actually bothers my forearms and I have to take my hands out and push the sleeves down for a bit. I agree it wouldn't hurt for them to make the openings bigger.

I'm going with layers and wearing a warmer vest. I hate it when my sleeves get too bulky. My arms usually aren't what gets cold

I'm not necessarily looking for fur, just an oversized hand muff. I am fine with synthetics, though down wouldn't be bad either.
