Did an early am sit and it started out terrible. My buddy recommended a spot that he couldn't hunt this year and that I get in nice and early. I think he felt bad for me! I was planning on an early MCDM sit, and set the alarm for 0300....took me forever to get moving and didn't start walking into the woods until 0445, and it took forever to find a tree and start climbing(I bet you can see where this is going). I was at height trimming a few tiny branches and a large deer walked right past me at 15 yards, bow and backpack were still on the ground, kinda surprised me a little, probably because I haven't been seeing %&*#$. So my plan of getting all set up early didn't really work, although I don't think I could have shot him/her anyway because it was still before the legal shooting time. Obviously, I was pretty upset at myself and even though I gave myself plenty of time, I wasn't able to get settled quick enough. Fast forward a few hours and I'm getting cold, my rubber boots were still wet from the day before, and I was about to start climbing down when 3 deer popped up, I think they might have been bedded down about 40 yards away. The two younger ones were running around and playing, it was pretty cool to see, one of them even jumped up on its rear legs shaking hooves at the other. They never got closer than 60 yards but it was good to see something, oh and they were downwind and never really spooked, they just kinda played for a while then wandered off, not in my direction. Unfortunately, I did spook the same group on my way out.
