The problem is I can't reach the top of my next stick. I suppose I could hang the aider before I attach the stick to the tree, but then I'm slinging it around and risk dropping it. I need to give it a try.

Ha! I did watch it. Attaching the aider at the top is perfect! But I can't reach the top of my sticks once I set it on the tree. I'm too short!!!LOL G2 I am assuming you didn't watch my video - I don't bend down to remove the aider. it attaches top top steps and I remove it when I step on the bottom steps - its at waist level
Correct me if I am wrong about how deer see? Because I want to learn.
Well dang I guess I wasted a little cash and some time..... could have sworn I actually observed two mature bucks in fact pick up moving aiders in the wind last year. Silly me.
get some dang platform crocs
Here is a little about deer vision, its not that good, about 20/100. This means that, a deer at 20 ft has the same vision (ability to see detail) as a person with 20/20 at 100ft. SO, if you have 20/20 vision and are 100ft (33 yards) from your climbing stick, the amount of detail you can see on your climbing sticks is what a deer can see at 7 yards. So, if you think a deer see's your climbing sticks at 20 yards, they are seeing the same amount of detail you (assuming 20/20 vision) would see on your climbing sticks at 100 yards. They can't see in the detail that we can, they are like a person with pretty bad vision. They are closer to "Legally blind" (20/200) than 20/20
They also are not able to focus on a single object, this works to their advantage. When we look at a object let say at 10 feet strait in front of us, that is the only thing we see in focus. A object 3 feet to the side but still only 10ft from us, is not in focus. With a deer, any object in the plane of 10ft is in focus, again their ability to see detail is pretty crappy.
As for colors, deer do not see the range or shades of colors we do. So having 3 different "shades" of green is pointless, deer see that as one color. Deer can see blue, its like a NEON sign to them. Red is the color they see the worst, kinda explains Fred Bears camo..... Some studies have said deer can see color similar to a red/green blind person, add that to the fact that they can't see detail very well, its like of like a very grey photo that is blurry.
This is where my comment comes from, a deer's ability to see detail is next to legally blind. So for a deer to see your climbing stick, would be very difficult, considering they are not looking for a climbing stick. With their ability focus on a larger plane, they are VERY likely to detect motion. It is WAY more likely that the deer saw a aider moving in the wind or smelled your stick or aider than they saw your stick.
Speaking of motion (this is my thoughts, no science behind this) If its windy, everything in the woods is moving so an aider moving is less likely to be noticed, the same for a stick strap/rope. That said, I like to tuck my rope of my muddy into the stand off on the step, less likely to move in the wind, less like to draw attention to the tree I am in. I do this because it makes me feel better.
If it makes you feel better to paint your sticks, paint them. The deer are more likely to smell them or see the aiders moving in the wind than they are to see the stick on the tree.

Dave' s present from Santa. And G2's. Should be able to climb an extra foot on three sticks and aiders. I sent your letters to the North Pole requesting these
? Not sure where you’re going with this? I don’t think anyone has said deer can’t pickup the movement of aiders.
This is why I asked you. I knew what you were thinking. And from an outside view, you were just wrong in your assumption. @Boudreaux responded directly to @Ontariofarmer's question. His post did not mention you or have anything to do with you. In fact at the end of his post he agreed with the going assumption that swinging aiders could cause deer to spook.Actually I think that would be my "obilgatory rebuttal post" to your obligatory rebuttal post?
Do I think a mature buck can detect the unnatural movement of a strap hanging on a stick on a windy day.... yep..... I shared my tboughts and I figure most folks are smart enough to weigh it out for themselves.
Arguing isn’t communication it is noise. When you guys communicate I learn more than I do from most people on this forum. When you argue to win I hear noise
And that gentleman, is what separates this forum from a vast majority. Well played.I agree - I apologize for my part in the "noise" I know better.
