I’ve done it but got busted so I needed a better way to ground hunt. I found “ingroundblinds.com” I didn’t buy his product but use his method of digging a small hole and using my turkey seat. Much more comfortable this way and a lot lower to the ground helped me a lot getting picked.

Interesting idea. I build a bunch of brush blinds early season, but never thought of digging out a footwell.

Was my 1st saddle about 12-13 years ago. I can see it being pretty affective at this idea.

I’ve gun hunted from the ground with a Guidos Web quite a few times. Never with a regular saddle though.

I know this sounds a little nuts, but has anyone used their saddle, attached to a tree, but from the ground? I am often very uncomfortable hunting from the ground...I cannot really sit on the ground itself...too uncomfortable, and most of the ground hunting seats I have tried are either bulky, heavy or uncomfortable. It occured to me though that I could use my saddle and tether...no platform, or maybe with the platform...still put the tree between me and the deer and...you get the idea. I'd probably put myself in a full ghillie suit. Anybody tried this?
Definitely.. I Mean why not? Saves the knees and butt and you are already in or close to a shooting position. I plan on doing this with my sit drag and maybe combined with my vanish. I'm starting to think in my area I hunt that with enough cover, good wind and small slow movements I can kill deer three feet off the ground

I toy around with this idea in the past but it never took off cause I lazy sometimes.......what I was imagining was material like that camo cloth peeps use to "hide" the ladder stands....u know what I'm talking about? It's got like leaf shaped cut outs in it?....anyway....if u cut it in the correct shape u could make a cloak for lack of a better description. u would tether to the tree and this would fix to ur tether or it's own separate tether cause it might need to be attached up higher that ur hanging tether. Kinda similar to an apron kinda....and the long part would go down to the ground out at an angle covering u up. It wouldn't really need to be a solid sheet...just a couple wide strips coming down at your 4 and 8 o'clock position on the tree

I made a crude 15 minute prototype and showed my buddy and he didn't seem impressed....but he thinks hunting with ur saddle off the ground is weird so I think it was biased review

Something like that would be for when u find the right spot to set up and it's got no back cover or anything to hide in

Something I thought of a bit ago on using saddle to ground hunt.. do y'all make a a smaller tether since it's not a in a life support mode when ground hunting?

I've done it. I have limited mobility sitting on the ground, so I would tether to a tree. But the issue I had is I couldn't sit still, so I got a Waldrop Pac Seat that I carry if I don't have a pre-designated saddle location or just scouting along.

I made a crude version of this with camo burlap and paracord. Works OK, next step is a lighter, less-bulky mesh material:

My concern with this approach is getting caught in my draw. I'd need to add some clips or something to make sure my string doesn't get fouled.

Do you have any pictures of your prototype?

I am just getting into saddle hunting, but this sounds like a good idea, when you just need a place to sit, and don't want to climb or don't see a tree you like. I am sure it will work, because like many others, I have killed quite a few deer, by just taking a position beside the base of a tree and gotten pretty close shots. at times. The first Trad bow deer I ever shot was taken when sitting by the base of a large tree, but I had two things going for me, I knew which way the deer was most likely to be coming from and the wind (thermals actually) was consistently blowing in my favor.

Try ASAT camo suit and head cover, very effective.......

I do this too, when the situation calls for it. Heck, I even do it when I'm in season scouting and just want to take a break and eat lunch. I also hate sitting on the ground, and I don't want to lug a chair around with me on top of my saddle and climbing gear, so it makes sense to use what I already have.

The camo cloak thing does sound pretty cool to use with it too!
