Stroller suggestions

We have both new and used. And used them both. Primary was bought new, but we had a used jogging stroller for beach trips or other excursions, or walking around the yard. The new, spendy one was, of course, much nicer and comfortable. But it was nice to have a cheap used one that we weren't invested in, that we didn't care if it got muddy or dirty or whatever.

We did the exact same. The used jogger gets run pretty hard and heavy vs the standard model we got new

On my 3rd kid here... We have a jogger and a stroller. Both are compatible with a car seat for infants which is nice. The jogger is nice for.. uh jogging, and maybe on grass but is a bit heavy and unwieldy to get in/out of the car. The stroller is better IMO. We just have a cheaper Graco like below. Works as it should. They grow so fast I wouldn't drop serious coin myself. Once they hit like 2 years old the umbrella strollers are so much easier and take up less space/weight. Ours is older, but similar to this this: https://www.gracobaby.com/strollers/travel-systems/comfy-cruiser-2.0-travel-system/SAP_2139060.html

Congrats by the way! Psalm 127:4-5
Likewise, third kid now. And dude that little Graco stroller/system is awesome. Plenty of room in the bottom, steers on a dime, and fits the car seat like a whiz while packing neatly.
For an “umbrella” stroller, we’ve found no better than this Evenflo:

It actually rotates and locks into upright, slightly back, and flat recline positions with a little latch behind the headrest, packs tightly and is really easy to steer with one hand.
Now for the Escalade of stroller, this hybrid wagon-stroller by Keenz:

Smooth turning, room for 4 kids, 300-350lb capacity I think, modular seating and accessories, enough room in the storage spaces for a quartered deer or a 30 rack of Keystones (yeah I drink Keystones still and I haven’t been to college in over a decade) or all the mom and dad crap you could want to haul. Plus the awning is retractable and it packs into your truck bed just by popping two very off-road-capable wheels. Also sets you back over $1K when all’s said and done. But worth it. It’s the JX-3 of the stroller world.

i bought new britax stroller/ carseat/ carseat base combo thing when my now 7 yo was on the way. it's nice for the littlest ones to have one of those compatible systems where the kid stays right in the carseat and it unbuckles from the car seat base and snaps right in to the stroller, easy peasy. there's a lot of adapters these days, like you can buy ones that fit BOB strollers to make a lot of the major brands work. used that thing and a bob jogger for both of my kids, have handed both down to other families that in turn used em for 2 kids. its kinda a 6 of one, half dozen of another to me, there's some benefits to new (in particular seems like psychological to her, particularly if it's a first kid) but they are pricey and if you can get one from someone you know, all the better.

i always preferred the jogging stroller/ BOB. but also had a bigger car, they don't compact down all that well even though most do fold.

are you planning on having a second kid that you can amortize the cost out over? or pull a @Red Beard and you can justify a lot of costs with that many kids. or not want to spend that much because you have so many kids to feed. not sure which way it goes, i knew i was only cut out for 2.

Could have anywhere from 1-6, but that number is subject to change after the first one. So we’re just focused on the first for now. :tearsofjoy:

What’s the consensus on buying new vs used? My wife said she doesn’t want to buy used because… she just doesn’t. While “I just don’t want to” is compelling, I’m still looking for other reasons why it may be wise to buy a new over used or vice versa.
I make good money and we still buy lots of kids stuff used.

This summer we got a ~$800 used burley bike trailer/jogging stroller for $350. It had no stains, rips, tears, or anything wrong with it. It had been used one time. The guy selling it was a teacher and his wife was a doctor and they just didn't like it after they bought.

Lots of good deals to be had out there.

I would LOVE to save money on baby gear but we buy everything new, unless it’s bought or given from an immediate family member. There’s something about the fact that another family’s baby or babies DEFINITELY DID crap, spit, cry, vomit, piss, bleed, etc. in that stroller, on that stroller, likely all over parts of that stroller you didn’t know existed and certainly don’t want to find out about. No matter who or what you buy or how clean they claim it is, there’s leftover baby scuzz on it. Guaranteed. At least psychologically. Both the Mrs. and I have a hard time getting past that feeling of ghost-effluence on our baby gear.
Now, if you can verify the source and get your mind right on it, go for it. The only other reason I’d be wary (not against, just wary) about buying used is that you check when it was manufactured. You don’t really want to mess with truly “old” baby gear that has out-of-date safety features or construction issues. Sometimes the nurse won’t even let you take your baby home if the car seat is not up to current specifications and standards, and we learned that lesson the almost-hard way with our second kid. Had to buy a several-hundred-dollar new car seat system right before my wife delivered because in the 3 years between our kids, all the industry standards changed and so did the hospital to fit that.

Couldnt you just shove that used stroller in a closet with your ozonics and have it neutralized before you could finish a large meat lovers pizza? :p

you’ve clearly never seen how fast I can plow through a pizza pie…
In all honesty I don’t think Ozonics could keep up with some of what my babies dun did to our strollers.

Having watched my kid take her favorite toy out of her mouth, and another kid promptly pick it up and put it in theirs, within 3 seconds of meeting each other, I’ve been disabused of thinking my kid or my family is the bastion of hygiene.
Good point. My 1YO spent 35 min chewing on a metal shopping cart (and my freaking arm) in REI yesterday and all Climber Joe could say was “yikes man, sorry, I dunno the last time we actually cleaned those”.

Yeah little kiddos are really aggressive about developing robust immune systems by ingesting all the germs they can cram into their mouths. Which they will later sneeze into your eyeballs. Bright side is you can tell yourself they're preventing future allergies and mitigating future illnesses.

And that Graco system is awesome. If you're going to buy new you could do a whole lot worse.

Healthy immune systems are built at great expense, and suffering. Pay now or pay later. Sure nobody wants COVID or the flu but I fear the family logistical collapses that happen about as much as the germs!

Kids get sick, no daycare, you take a few days off work… kids get better… now the germ finally gets you… take more days off or try to struggle through it? Fun stuff!

Indeed.

Mind you i wasn't suggesting that I have any actual medical expertise. Just that when you're up at 0330 cleaning up vomit the hope of a sliver lining can be very, very helpful...
