This thread has been great...look the brothers on here convinced me to change my mind...i do think people should wear legstraps now...simply for the unknown sircumstances as mentioned by stalker.but for sure in using sticks and rappeling.in all the blah blah there is a couple compelling arguements
I still haven't been convinced lol.

What if they just started building saddles right into heavy duty hunting pants? I feel like someone is/has been doing this already. That would take care of the leg strap situation right away. Reinforced crotch seams, widened flexible/pleated gussets and a pleated booty, cinching adjusters sewn into the thighs and/or butt, all rated stitching and straps, cordura or some other abrasion resistant material (maybe carharrt gets into the saddle game)…it would be worth the $1K it’d probably cost if tested to 350# and accessorized with great ropes and biners and such. It’d probably test to 450# with all that potential for reinforcement at little expense to comfort.

There’s harness shorts for stuff from climbing to kiteboarding.

There was a thread on here of a guy trying to add a harness to jeans. Folks were poking fun at him…they like their diapers.

I’ve seen those shorts before.
If I could hunt and climb in shorts I would. But I don’t like ticks. Or poison ivy. Or briars. Or blackberry thorns. Or shagbark hickory. Or honeysuckle. Or bees. You get it.
Ripstop jeans all the way. I must not have been in that thread or taken a hiatus from SH at the time. I woulda praised homie for his system-bucking.
I feel like they made bibs and coveralls with treestand harnesses built in. Maybe I’m wrong.

Sportchief had a jacket with a “harness”. I thought Robinson Outdoors did too, idk.

I bet 30% of this forum’s content is devoted to seeking comfort in a soft saddle. Most of that content is trying to make things universal, while running up against each persons shape, tolerance for pressure, hunting style, etc.

And that’s just with a flat piece of fabric that covers a person’s butt.

Make that thing have to cover every inch of a person’s upper legs and waist, and we could probably increase the portion of content to 50% easily.

It’s like a Segway: how do you make a Segway not cost 2000.00? Add a 3rd wheel.

How do you make a soft saddle only marginally annoying for most people to use? Make it separate from the pants they wear.

I thought it was a joke until I clicked it. Still not convinced it’s real but I’m terrified that it is.
You was just born too late. We had all sorts of ways to kilt yourself back in the day. @tailgunner thinks climbing sticks are the most dangerous climbing system. He obviously never paired a baker stand and that waist belt.

The other negative to building a harness into shorts/pants/bibs/etc. is it would restrict layering abilities.

I wear my leg straps every time, I feel like I'd slide out of my transformer saddle when one sticking if I didn't!

My first saddle was a Trophyline & back in 2006 leg straps were not adjustable (they were also 2" wide) & hung down low & were always hanging up on brush. So I chopped them off.... ever since then, every saddle I've bought I'd chop them off or every saddle I made I never put any on. When it gets cold I always wait until I'm at hunting height before I put on my coveralls/insulated bibs & there's no way that I think I could put on/take off layers with leg straps. The way I sweat, I couldn't imagine walking in or climbing to hunting height with all my cold weather gear on. Of course now that leg straps are detachable & not sewn solid, so I could unhook & reconnect after, but I just prefer not to have them.... my saddle; my choice. Maybe I'm taking an unnecessary risk, but there is also a risk to wearing leg straps if you don't have a suspension relief system or if for some unforseen reason a person becomes unconscious & can't deploy a relief system & cutoffs the bloodflow of their femoral artery. But none of that jibber jabber has anything to do with why I don't use them. I just feel comfortable not using them & if someone feels more comfortable by using them then more power to them. I've heard of ppl using a back up tether &/or a secondary bridge, and if that gives them peace of mind then good for them. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion & is responsible for their own safety.

Omg i can’t believe I’m posting in this thread again. It’s like a drug. Anyway here’s more evidence of leg strap “requirements”. From a company I honestly don’t even like that much. And I wouldn’t exactly call their gear the safest. And who makes their leg straps removable. But credit where it’s due, they covered their own butts and according to page 2 of their manual (screen shots provided) the leg straps are “required” for proper use. Didn’t go any further in my research, just stirring the pot again. Providing more “evidence” for my mans Big Chan to throw darts at, and maybe trynna egg Gunny on again.
My leg straps did pinch my scro while hunting this evening. So I did unbuckle one while elevated  what an oxymoron I am.

Haha I love it! But you can’t say always wear your leg straps and make the crappiest leg straps in the game. Latitude is the worst brand in my opinion and they’re leg straps are the worst. Their g hooks are trash.
