I’m about to jump into trying 2TC.

Before I do.

For those who have experience with them. I was curious what your opinions on the following climbing methods as far as time, noise, and ease of use for the following methods:

One stick
2TC
Wild edge steps with aider/kaider

My only experience is 2TC. It takes me about 8 minutes to climb the tree and set my platform and ring of steps. It is very quiet and once you are proficient at it very easy. There is a learning curve like anything else. My first few attempts were horrible. Prior to my first season with 2TC I spent a lot of time practicing it. Obviously very light weight as well

Of the three listed, my only experience as well is 2TC. It also takes me about 8 or so minutes to be up on a ring of steps ready to hunt in most cases. As mentioned, it is very quiet. Some trees like pines you have to slow down a little to be quiet because of the crunchy bark. I hunted all season last year on 2TC and have been using it as my only climbing method this season. Prior to my first season using it I practiced all summer to get proficient. That is really the key.

I haven’t tried 2tc, that and DRT are the only climbing methods I haven’t tried. As far as wild edge vs one stick. I prefer one stick so much more. Wild edge just had too much fiddle factor for me. I even tried them twice with 3 years between attempts, I’ve thought about 2tc but one stick is just so dang easy.

I can get up a tree very quickly one sticking, usually 3 moves and I'm at 20+ but there's a chance I make noise hitting the carabiner or the madrock on the one stick.

I get up the tree a bit slower 2tc but there's zero chance of metal on metal noise. For this reason I've committed to the switch, and think I'll get a bit faster with more practice, though speed is rarely a top concern. The noise (or rather lack thereof) angle sold it for me.

Have never tried WE stepps, like @Cbigbear I'd just go back to my multi-stick setups instead.

Wild Edge and knaider all the way. Once you figure it out, it's so simple....and you can climb down without needing a 40' scent wick. I actually just traded some sticks cause I wasn't using them.

I don't like wrapping myself around a tree and/or coming in contact with the bark that inevitably falls to the ground carrying scent. Go slow and don't touch stuff. I've heard no one even give that the slightest bit of thought. IMO alot of these climbing methods leave a lot to be desired simply because you're scratching and scraping all over the tree as you climb. I've watched the videos....no way to prevent it.

I’ve been lazy the last couple years. I use to try out a new climbing method every year. A few years back I decided I had a system for about every situation and ceased exploration of new methods. So I haven’t tried the 2tc but may in the future.
The very first climbing method I purchased as a saddle hunter was wild edge steps. They were an excellent all around option. I liked them with an aider or a knaider but not really both at the same time. My one sticks pretty much replaced them as my main mobile method. They were quiet and had an excellent weight to height ratio. The only complaint I could come up with on them is they are a little slow to pack up on the way down.
I gave one sticking a shot. I think it’s a good skill to practice but for me it’s something I do to get a little higher in the tree. Whether one sticking or using spurs I wanted rappelling to work but it always wound up tangled in a briar bush at the base of the tree when I finally got it to fall down the tree.

Have you ever tried the Amsteel mod for the Wild Edge steps

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaah....2tc.or die dude.all roads lead to ultralight.all roads lead to 2tc..period.its comparing the bare minimum things you need already, to extra things you dont need at all......made of metal..same stuff they make bazookas and other land to air missiles out of...duh

Uh oh, we about to be gunnered again. Buckle up for some pictures of beautiful green rainforest, fuzzy steps and possibly a diy death diaper with pockets. If you're lucky you'll get a story about his dad being more badass than all of us an a pic of a sweet elk.

Love you bro lol
