Southern Snowmageddon 2024 Thread

Quit playing around and go test that solitude set for me!
I was out and about in the sleet and snow, 20 mph winds and 5-15 degree weather the past three days in nothing more than my briefs and a tshirt under the solitude set and I had it venting the whole time. Half time with bibs and jacket, half time with just the jacket. What more do you need to know? Lol

Lol we get snow like once every 5 years, they ain’t budgeting for salt.

And we usually get sleet, which melts and then refreezes into black ice. This is why the south shuts down for snowmegeddons.

Drifting time! Best with a front wheel drive! You could get some 720's before hitting someone! Just don't forget to leave a note and yr insurance info!

I’m enjoying the heck out of this thread, but I was just thinking how does he have the time / energy for all these shenanigans… then remembered you guys are getting snow days for this(?) When we get snow/ice I just have to get up 2 hours earlier and clear the driveway before work. Love to see it.

We had off MLK (Monday) and I’m burning leave for yesterday and today. I’ve just been fighting pipes through the night and going to hang out with my son in the NICU for 3-4 hours during the day. The shenanegans coincide with getting firewood, walking/playing the dog, and driving to and from the NICU. I’ve really enjoyed the time in the snow, by the fireplace with the Mrs. and dog, and extra time with my son. Very blessed this snowmeggedon!5B2D9C5A-83F2-4A70-8254-9F410E756610.jpeg

Yes, my question was why would you possibly have skates? That is probably the only pair in the whole state of Alabama. And how do you know how to use them? If I tried that I would feel something on the back of my head, and it would be the ground, lol.

30 degrees and drizzle for the drive in to the office this morning. Interstate was clear but everything else is still a mess.
Roads are slightly better on the interstate and slightly worse on backroads this morning. Worst day of driving thus far because there are so many people on the road. It’ll get above freezing today but then we’re supposed to get that drizzle/light sleet this afternoon evening and then temps dive again for two more days. Really hope we don’t get more ice accumulation.

Congratulations are very much in order! What a collection of powerful experiences. Blessings to you and your beautiful family - may you always be filled with warmth and joy!

I think our high Saturday is 25 and then 37 sunday. Planning to scout saturday and try to make a hunt sunday if I can find a high odds spot. Saw a dandy tree to hang on the drive in this morning. The golf xcourse next to the interstate has a big oak dropping. 8 deer under it at 6:20 when I drove by. Only reason I could see them was the snow on the ground really made them stand out.

Dad married a Yankee from Williamsport Pennsylvania and got big into hockey. Mobile Alabama had a EHL team and he played pick up. We moved to MN for 2 years when I was 2-3 and that’s when they first got me on skates. When we returned to mobile Alabama because MN was too dang cold we continued playing ice hockey and then roller hockey. I didn’t play in middle school but as soon as I could drive I was driving an hour east to Pensacola and an hour west to Biloxi to play on house and travel teams three times a week. We sucked but man it was fun couple of years. We have a hockey team where I’m at as well as two public rinks that have kids and adult leagues. I played on the beer league a couple years but haven’t played in a few years. Would love to get back to it. And that is my hockey career in the south in a nutshell lol!!

I skated a few times at the ice rink they had in that mall in Memphis before it was featured weekly on The First 48. That was a long time ago, though.

Walking or sitting still the whole time?

Also, seeing a Mobile Mystics logo was a blast from the past. I've never cared about sports but I used to ask to go see them just because when I was little I thought that green dragon was DOPE!

A little of both. You can’t even go for a light stroll without getting hot which isn’t surprising or impressive I’m aware. I did stay out in the storm on a platform for about an hour and came in once my toes started getting cold. I was toasted other wise. I didn’t compare it to any of my other gear though.

When I was a kid, I saw a very drunk mall Santa being escorted through the parking lot by police in Memphis. I seem to think it was somewhere downtown near the Peabody. It reminded me of Dan Akroyd's character in Trading Places.
