Is there a reason that you want to change it? LOL
Well, 3/16 is gonna be stronger than 1/8 I hear that Amsteel is not really climb rated. I know I heard that from Jerry grose and one of his YouTube videos. I think it’s kinda thin. If I’m gonna take a chance I would try 3/16.

I'm not an amsteel for life-support person, but that's me, and I definitely wouldn't be using it as a tether! Have you talked to @grayskwerel ?

When one sticking or using the Sladder and rappelling down, I use Oplux or Canyon C-IV with a Mammut Smart 2.0 belay device with a HMS style Carabiner. I used to use the MR safeguard and although it’s a great device, its nosier, bulkier and heavier than the Mammut Smsrt 2.0.

How do you like the sladder? I will be using a figure 8 or repel ring

Yes, I did talk to grayskwerell he seems to think the 3/16 would probably work but he didn’t test it. I am just concerned because he never have the weight rating on them advertised unless he already did now. I have to check his web page

If you follow the WLL rule of thumb for 10% breaking strength, 1/8" could be listed at 230-250 static WLL... 10% may have more of a fudge factor due to the Sladder not being life support as its intended purpose. BUT that again is a personal safety decision!

He's right, it's not. The saddle hunting community is the only community that uses it as such. There are better, proven options. Like regular climbing line

Interesting observation, I've been using Petzl Volta 9.2 for two dozen climbs now. It's great, supple, dry cover treated dynamic rope. Knots easily, fairly easy to have friction hitches bite on it and works great with safeguard.

Out of curiosity bought a piece of Beal Joker 9.1mm thinking it has the Unicore technology, making it theoretically safer with sharp objects, ascenders etc. + there was an opportunity to get a 40ft piece in black color. ANYWAYS. Rope being much stiffer I notice it's harder to rappel, makes noise when hitches are slid up and down on it and knots don't tighten anywhere near as securely on it compared to Petzl. On top of that, initial hump to start rappeling on the Joker and Safeguard is much more noticeable.

Obviously thickness isn't everything, but it's a good reminder to look further than just diameter when comparing ropes.

Btw. the madman of HowNot2 decided to sell most ropes by the foot in his shop. Here's one interesting option https://hownot2.com/products/swift-...3&_fid=712f12562&_ss=c&variant=47596540494139
