Climber Platform and Tree Saddle Combo

There is kick out. I’ve had it happen using the full climber and was glad I had the top and bottom tethered together…as well as my safety harness. If you haven’t experienced it, good. But it’s a real possibility that I’ve experienced first hand. The bulk is my issue. It catches on...

Climber Platform and Tree Saddle Combo

Just watched that video. I can’t see doing the rappel down with it. I see myself having it grab the tree and causing at best a lot of noise. If someone else has the coordination to keep things free flowing, great for them. I hate the bulk of the climber more than it’s weight. Keeping the...

Ito Rocky Climbing Stop Descender Rappelling

I think it’s a mistake to skimp on quality and safety standards to save a few dollars with an unknown manufacturer using unknown materials, with unknown testing results. Personally, I’d rather buy a name brand figure 8/rescue 8 that has been tested by an accredited facility and shown to be up...

    Best platform for bigger guys!!!

For the money I really like the XOP Edge. 6’3” 245lb size 12 boot and it’s very solid and enough room. It’s heavy but solid and was on sale at MidwayUSA for $85 recently. Plenty of other great options that are bigger or lighter, but not cheaper than that.

    ROS VS PLATFORM

ROS for me. I sit in a dryad drey so I’m basically sitting in a hammock as is. Having steps works better for that than a platform. On a long sit I take a 1 step so I can lean a little more comfortable. Typically it’s about 3/4 sitting and 1/4 leaning to get a break from sitting. The...

    Quietest climbing method?

I ordered the foot strap from CGM so we’ll see how practicing with that goes the next couple months. A little noise is likely fine, it’s the carabiners clinking, sticks bumping each other, camming over thud that makes me most nervous. A little natural sound has never seemed to spook them. If...

    Quietest climbing method?

2TC seems like it would be everything I want. The quiet is great and if I’m wading through the marsh, not having 10-15# of sticks seems even better. I tried 2TC last summer but with a very cheap amsteal homemade option and hated it. But that was more because the foot loop wouldn’t stay open...

    Quietest climbing method?

20-25ft high. I like higher than lower but if it has to be low I’ll do that. Trees are typically basketball sized or a little smaller. I try not to push either very large or small trees. Typically few to no branches until hunting height, though I try to get close to canopy/other trees to...

    Quietest climbing method?

Trying to get in close to the beds this year. Looking to replace a lot of things that were either too bulky, heavy, or loud. I’ll mostly be hunting private land that I do not own. I don’t have permission currently to put up anything permanent but I think that may be a possibility. If so I’ll...

Input needed, looking at light hang ons for all day sits

Out of curiosity, why do you stay in a single blind/tree/spot all day? It seems to me that habits in the morning and evening don’t tend to be ideal for the same spots. I’d think spending 4 hours in one, moving to a different spot over an hour or so, and then spending another 4 hours in a spot...

Why are there not more plastic sticks and platforms?

Looking at a reinforced polymer, I’d be skeptical that it couldn’t be made to be better at 1-2 traits though likely not everything all at once. I’d trust a polymer blend stick before a Tethrd stick. Never had a Glock frame crack on me either. But “metal gud” is simple enough for a handful too.

How to make a schwabisch hitch with continuous loops?

If you have access to either end of the rope you can use a continuous loop but if you are trying to tie it without that access it’s not going to work.

    Is one sticking really worth

Doesn’t have the cool factor of going straight from hunting height to the ground but it’s how I’m doing it too.

    Recommendations on a minimalist saddle?

Dryad makes some minimalistic stuff that may do what you like.

    Is one sticking really worth

I tried it but not long enough to get comfortable. Found it too easy to pack 4 Cranford rope steps and an aider. Still use a stick with a small platform top as my platform but that’s more to use a ring of steps along with it. So if I had to, I’d have the stuff to one stick and the knowledge...
