Blacktail
I have hunted in: CA, OR, WY, AZ, KS, GA, SC, IL.
Former district wildlife biologist in northeastern Ks- Miami, Wyandotte, Johnson, and Leavenworth counties. Also worked on and hunted the Elk City Wildlife Area in SE Ks a lot.
BS, Wildlife & Fisheries Biology, UC Davis. Lived here in Ca most of my life and grew up hunting blacktails.
MSFR, University of Georgia. Shot my first whitetail buck (a spike thanks) in Oglethorpe County, Ga, 1997. I studied under a very serious and prolific deer researcher and basically lived off venison while I was there.
Chairman, Trinity County Fish and Game Advisory Commission. Caught my first salmon in the Trinity River in August 1987.
FFL Type 01 and 06. Love building custom bolt action hunting rifles and reloading for them. Currently babying a .280 AI I built on a Savage 110 and a .338 Win Mag I built on a Ruger M77. If I don’t sell them I’m taking them both to NM on a cow elk hunt.
Got into saddle hunting from conventional treestand hunting. I was looking for a safer and easier way to climb and set stands, and discovered the ‘yo-yo’ or ‘RADS’ style of ‘Single Rope Technique (SRT)’ tree climbing. That led me to saddles, which led me to saddle hunting, and I’ve been working on my saddle hunting technique since 2019.
Husband, dad, brother, son, veteran, and workin’ for the man til I win the lottery, and hunting and fishing weekends til then!
