    Camping in KY Mountains

@Torrent yeah, e-scouting only gets you part way there. Last time we just did it in a wing to Auxier Ridge and that ended up working out pretty well. But that area was fairly populated by hikers and other campers. Thinking maybe we could find someplace a little more secluded.

    Camping in KY Mountains

I get that there's a 300ft from water limit, so when I look at the maps in topo it gets hard to see what would be acceptable for dispersed camping. In short, general area with reasonable water access and relatively flat areas for a couple of medium size tents. Considered something like these...

    Camping in KY Mountains

I was looking at Cave Run. Does look pretty good area. How's the terrain? Steep slopes? Water access easy or a chore to get to?

    Camping in KY Mountains

Agreed! East of Lexington is where I was considering... I have some guys from the East coast coming in and that's about equal distance for all of us.

    Camping in KY Mountains

Anyone done any dispersed (primitive off-trail) camping down in East KY? Looking at a trip late summer and wondering if anyone has any tips or recommendations. NOT looking at a campground or site... roughin' it all the way. Been down there years ago but looking for some place different.

    Wild Edge/Primal Step "Single stick"

Not with a WE stepp. River's Edge stick. And that works just fine. Little heavier and bulkier than I would like though.

    Wild Edge/Primal Step "Single stick"

Doesn't a cam buckle require two hands? My current setup uses a camlock with a 10mil rope that I can pop with a single hand. Easy peasy.

    Wild Edge/Primal Step "Single stick"

Not to knock the the knaider/swaider, but I'm looking for a minimalist approach. The K/S seems to be more gear to achieve the same result, IMO.

    Wild Edge/Primal Step "Single stick"

I like this setup, but what's the trick in moving it when you're up above it? I get what TooheyBirdie is saying, but some folk don't have $100+ to spend on a single stick. I have a single River's Edge stick I modded down from 32" to about 26" but I move through some thick stuff where I hunt is...

Anyone use this method with a Figure 8?

I started using an 8 after @phatkaw's video. Then I found this. Rappel modes with Figure 8 - 10 ways I found one that works for me and back up with an autoblock. Smooth, secure and easy to set and unhook on the ground.

Where to buy Amsteel by the foot

Right on. Try searching for synthetic winch rope as well. Most are rated 7000# and up. And most some with a portion already sheathed which I found useful depending on application...

I CAN’T KEEP MY FEET WARM

Don't forget that metal works like a heat-sink in cold weather. Even if your boot soles are rubber, anything metal they rest on will draw heat. Found out that when I keep my feet on a foam pad on my fixed stand, nowhere near as cold as when they are sitting on that metal platform. Not sure how...

    Wild Edge/Primal Step "Single stick"

Anyone ever considered using just one Primal or Wild Edge step for "single sticking"? I get using multiple steps vs single "stick" but is there a hybrid solution out there?

    HECS Suit

so maybe it’s complete nonsense, just species specific. Like migratory birds. May not matter for deer
