    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

Most I have seen kept the double step setup and only remove 1 of the 3 pairs. I did see a post on a Facebook group where a guy used left over steps to make sticks with tubing. He placed the steps similar to Lone Wolf and XOP sticks using grade 8 bolts as stops for the steps. The steps only flip...

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

I will always wear a lineman's belt. I just won't treat it as a fall arresting device and only as a fall prevention device. I just see some people (I was one until a few years ago) who falsely assume it will catch when you slip like it does when you fall backward.

They also think a lineman's belt will prevent a slide to the bottom of the tree when they slip.

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

I totally agree and I tested these sticks out before taking them to the woods. The only one that failed was only 1 step and it was at ground level. Lesson learned. Fortunately, the sticks can be salvaged with a shorter step height. I want you to know I appreciate your videos and that they were...

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

@DaveT1963 If you watch G2's video, he places the holes closer to one slot than the other. I was only off by 1/8" or less. I feel like one post by another member earlier in the thread was accusing G2 and others of being irresponsible towards other members' safety. Honestly, it really is on me...

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

I have been offline for a little bit since I originally posted this. I have been fairly busy between work, trying to get a side business going, and things to do at the house. I want to clarify a few things. I am in no way blaming anyone else for my actions. I thought I made it clear that I...

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

Yeah, I saw this video after I cut them. That's what made me use that stick for the bottom and keep an eye out for it.

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

I'm glad I only cut one set of sticks instead of both.

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

Followed the G2 video and got the hole about 1/16" to 1/8" to close to the slot on this step.

When I get down from the tree I can.

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

Two scraped spots and a blood blister is a small price for this learning experience. Luckily, I have been hunting with steps and sticks all my life and remained calm. This could have been bad.

    Cut down Hawk Helium failure

I cannot stress enough to make sure you drill step holes in the proper location when cutting your Heliums. I had one stick that I thought I might have gotten too close to the milled slot. I used that stick at the base of the tree this morning in case of failure. I have climbed this stick several...

I bought a second perch for my wife to use. Looks like we may go a different direction for her platform. New in the box, never used condition. I only opened the box to get my replacement ropes for my steps. I paid $147 + $15 shipping when I bought it. $145 tyd.
