Welcome from Texas! You're spot on about trying gear before you buy. I did extensive research and was certain I would like a specific saddle, it didn't work out but I was glad I bought it used off the classifieds on this forum. It was a quick catch and release of two saddles before I committed...

Leafy suit with high-vis orange state requirements?

I wear a FL leafy suit with an orange vest. Does it help... I don't know but I feel more confident and doubt it hurts anything, except my checkbook!

Muzzleloader season down here in Texas runs through the 19th. There is a very small chance I get out this weekend but It would only impact my freezer since I already got two on the board. Good luck to those with any season left!

Welcome from Texas! When I started I wanted as light as possible and got a micro platform (I can't remember the brand but it was tiny, like 5" x 10") with amsteel workhorse aider. The whole thing was like 3.5lbs but then I moved on to a one-stick. Keep an open mind and lots of trial and error...

Congrats on a great season! I'm in a similar situation, 3 deer and +150lbs on venison is enough for my family and friends. However, the Texas late muzzleloader season may be too hard to miss in January. I also may try to get a standby slot at a local State Park hunt if I can get the time off...

Just being able to get within bow range of a deer is a big accomplishment. Good luck on the track job.

I shot a nice 10 point on our family land this past weekend but it was off the ground. It was an exhilarating hunt, I had to run 200+ yard to close the distance and made an offhand neck shot from 80 yard with my deceased grandmothers .243. I was of course a little bummed it wasn't out of a...
