    Quick question (one sticking)

If I don't use my Safeguard (which always wins any testing for convenience while climbing) and use a friction or an 8 (yes to ascend), I always have another friction on my hip on the tail end of my rappel rope which is always my tether. I do not use a backup friction when using safeguard, but I...

    Quietest climbing method?

I really want to try 2TC soon, but mildly cynical of these responses saying it's the quietest. Of the most popular 2TC videos currently, the number one thing that kinda pushes me away from trying is THE NOISE :) When transferring weight, every demonstrator is leg hugging tree, futzing too much...

    61 degrees below zero

Breckinridge, CO about 15 years ago in -63... went skiing there and the ticket counter said "we don't want to sell tickets today, but buy at your own risk". Well, we bought them. Skiing down the hill with the massive trees blocking the wind was mildly bearable, but the lift ride up was @#$#%&#...

Like to use a Rope man ascender a little advice please

I think the specs go down to 9mm, but I know it works awesome on 8mm resctech

Like to use a Rope man ascender a little advice please

use a friction hitch with a tender... no banging and no room for accidentally letting out your slack. My opinion is 100% on lineman's only, not tether, where a Kong Duck or Safeguard/GriGri win.

    1 Stick Aider Question

You totally got it. 3-4 steps is awesome for the first move, but totally pointless after. I went with 2 and don't regret it. less to bundle up when you're cleaning up as well.

New Saddle 2023- TETHRD Lock Down. Being released at ATA Show.

Mixed reviews... has some great features though... one handed haulers, but have to wonder if stuff can fall out with the zipper going so far forward when you're in the tree. LOVE the pleat extenders how they are rigid and won't flop or be uneven. If you can't remove the yoke, that's a deal...

Ascending tree on a figure eight

I do... I cut my 40' of rope down to 35' and now use that rappel line with my Safeguard 98% of the time. Again, I LOVE rappelling with the 8, but love the safety of knowing if anything goes wrong with the climb in any way, I can immediately get down if i'm on my rappel line. Also, i'm using...

Ascending tree on a figure eight

I'm 100% in the same boat as you. There are advantages to using a short tether (w/ Kong Duck for me) then transferring to 8 for rappel. However, I hate transferring up top. While safe, it's a pain and when I get down, I always immediately go back to my Safeguard with my rappel line as the...

Why are 1sticks so short? Educate me please

Rock on then! Would be awesome. To play devils advocate, though one stick with a platform makes it even more mobile. Less to carry and less to futz with when you’re up at hunting height.

Why are 1sticks so short? Educate me please

I’m a small guy… 5’7” ~155lb… I wouldn’t go any smaller than my 12” that I love. I think 10” would really be pushing the limits where it’s going to be tight getting your boots safely and cleanly from bottom step to top of stick.

Why are 1sticks so short? Educate me please

exactly... I got a 12" EWO stick and had regret right after I purchased... feared it was going to be too short... not only did it not matter and work great, but it's so awesome to hook onto my fanny pack without ever grabbing branches, etc.

Ascending tree on a figure eight

I don't do it very often, but I will use a friction hitch on my hip (lineman loop on saddle) to the tag end of rope. I know the argument is that is unsafe that it could get sucked into the figure 8 in an emergency, but I use the shorter Cruzr prussik loop so it's impossible. I use a single...
