    Traditional bow kills 2022/2023 season.

I just received a selfbow from John; 64" 47#@27" Buffalo Runner Spirit, osage sapling bow with the sapwood still on...been shooting it for 2 days. Amazed how quiet and efficient it is, and accurate for something as crooked as a dog's leg. Three 175 Ace broadheads from 20 yards kneeling on the...

Unfortunate Events Lead to Missed Opportunities

As a veterinarian, I had to give him a pass. I did have the pleasure of neutering him at a later date...haven't seen him since.

Unfortunate Events Lead to Missed Opportunities

I had this guy in my yard, right behind the archery target several years ago; late October. Two does in the beanfield had his attention, and I was about 80 yards away in a tripod stand at the woodline. A snort-wheeze got him heading my way, and then I caught movement to my left. My neighbor's...

    Total arrow weight

54#@26" NM Shelton, tapered cedars at 525 grains. A little below 10 gr/lb but arrows fly great and bow is just a whisper...probably more a function of bow style than arrow weight, though.

"A Slow, Deliberate, Emotionless, Open Conversation" About Hunting Accidents

Grew up in Cecil Co. in the '70s; the referenced episode isn't surprising to me...at all. Never subscribed to the need for height to hunt deer; have been moderately successful from the ground for over 45 years, including some pretty nice bucks; mostly with trad bows and handguns. Got into the...

    traditional bow quivers

Great Northern Kickback quiver on a Great Northern Ghost...very compact set-up.

Gonna ask it. Who's hunting commando?

Kinda do the opposite. Haven't used a specific base layer in years; only have two sets of clothing that get much use. Early season is First Lite Kanab merino pants and either a First Lite zip crew or a plaid shirt. Once it cools, the above is the base layer, with KOM bibs over top. Below...

I can't believe that worked moment.

First time rattling; probably 25-30 years ago. Two of us; my buddy Byron in a treestand and me on the ground with the horns. Cold, clear and windless morning in the Shenandoah Valley. Once he was set in the tree, I got situated and then started working the antlers. Not a minute into it, we heard...

    Pistol hunters?

Used them pretty much exclusively for years, but not out of a saddle. Our county just legalized rifles/handguns for deer last year, with the caveat of at least 10' elevation. I did a little late season from the saddle and it worked fine; used a shoulder holster. I'm not sure I'd want a SBH...

    FPS really that important?

To be honest, I think the relatively slow arrows we trad guys shoot HELPS us, at least the instinctive folks. I can see where speed would help a gapper, though. For me at least, being able to watch an arrow fly ingrains that trajectory at various distances. I had a Morrison Dakota once...

    The Official Ground Hunting Thread

Hard to say; this is the only one I've used. The mesh is sturdy but soft, so I'm sure it's quieter than the cheap ones, and the seat is big and comfy. It's rock solid when kneeling, but when sitting with it collapsed with just your feet on the ground, having 3 points of contact helps, like your...

    Great Northern Longbows

Hinged grip, making it a 2 piece takedown...folds in half. Biggest advantage I see is that the string stays on the bow when broken down, so no worrying about changes in brace height when rebraced.

    Great Northern Longbows

Yes, it's a Creep. I can tell a difference; the Creep is 4" shorter with narrower limbs. Best way I can describe it is that it's a 7/8 scale Bushbow with a bit more reflex/deflex . Bushbow might be a bit smoother; Creep a bit crisper on release. Both are great, but the Creep just fits me better.

    Great Northern Longbows

Loved my Bushbows, but have come to prefer the Lil Creep. Faster, just as quiet, shorter and lighter...perfect hunting bow; my two are both 47#@26". Have the Jackknife feature on all three of my GNs; don't think I'd get another without it.
