    Wild Edge steps and aiders

I saw the knaider hooks on the Eastern Woods Outdoors web site this morning. To be honest the price for 1 hook is pricey. You might want to consider buying a set of knaider swaiders.

Strap Broke, Self Rescue, Saw a Big Buck

Thanks for posting this story. Back in my rock climbing days I always carried a "emergency attachment" and a spare 4ft loop. Always had spare beaners. With 1 stick saddle hunting we have a minimalist approach and I have to confess some of my self rescue gear gets left home in the garage. Dumb...

    Older guys

I think what keeps us old guys in the game is that we go a little slower when ascending a tree. So there is the safety issue and in general we don't make as many mistakes. I believe that is driven by the fact they we know how long it takes for us to heal... LOL

Rappelling setup, figure 8 or ATC, a few questions

Since a couple people have asked about the ATC method, yes you have to use a carabiner at the ATC. Here is a side by side pic of the 2 method's I suggested.

Rappelling setup, figure 8 or ATC, a few questions

Yes, you are correct. With an ATC & carabiner you WILL HAVE metal on metal contact (and noise). (Edit) and you have to use a 2nd biner with the ATC. BTW, my rig is setup for a left handed tag line. Righties, need to flip it for a right hand control.

Rappelling setup, figure 8 or ATC, a few questions

Using my tether for illustration, I use a Figure 8 or an ATC belay device with a simple friction knot brake. I have both. As far as I am concerned it is panic/bomb proof. The brake loop is 12" and the loop to the figure 8 is 18". What like about this setup is no metal to metal noise. I clip...

    Tether for Repel Line questions

I have always had 100% control using a figure 8 with a friction knot on the tag end of the rappel rope. But I have never rappelled using a rain soaked rope. I find this subject thread interesting and I am following it. I might go over to my old rock climbing forum and research it. To be...

    Tether for Repel Line questions

My experience with rappelling is limited to rock climbing related activities. Which for obvious reasons was not done during wet conditions. Therefore no wet rope experience here. I've always used a figure 8 backed up with a friction knot when rappelling. This setup is hand fed and I do not...

    Cheap 10mm Static line mistake.

I thought what the heck, I'll go ahead and buy some 10mm static line off Amazon - the price is great... Big mistake! I also purchased some 7mm Blue line for pursicks and rope mods. The quality of the blue line far exceeds the Chinese rope bought from Amazon. I need to buy a real tether/repel...
