    SRT knee ascending

I'll put a list together of the gear I use for SRT and the price of each item. i bought all the RADS stuff first and really thought it sucked ascending up the tree:). Maybe I wasn't doing it quite right I don't know. The downside with SRT is that you need a tree with a branch or Y at hunting...

    SRT knee ascending

I use a rope wrench with a HAAS (knee ascender) and foot ascender. I attached a pic of the first deer I shot with the setup. I walked into this little upland peninsula that stuck into a swamp area (lots of thick pepperbush). The upland was tore up so I tossed my throwline up over a branch...

    Your climbing method.

For the past three or four years I've been going SRT (sterling rope static rope, rope wrench, 8mm sewn eye & eye, DMM hitch climber pulley, foot ascender, HAAS, XOP ernies platform attached to tree with stepp knot and a few cranford screw in steps).

    Latest rappelling set ups.

I've bought these 10-15m shorts from sterling and they seem plenty long for getting up +20ft. Its nice to have a couple of ropes and it is much more affordable with the shorts. I would argue the color of the ropes doesnt matter. I use a rope wrench, with the DMM hitch climber pulley. To...

    Attachment methods for XOP platform

I really like the stepp knot with ernie's platform and found it easy after doing it a few times.

Explain how you rappel from a tree? I don't understand.

Yah for the most part. I typically have a few trees setup with throwline where I can just walk in and pull up a rope or a couple of tress where I leave up a climbing rope. I was buying end pieces of rope from sterling for ~$25 so I've got two or three ropes now (with a few stuck in trees:)). I...

Explain how you rappel from a tree? I don't understand.

I've been using a the rope wrench setup for SRT with a hitch pulley attached at my saddle. It is pretty sweet. I started using a small pulley on the end of the figure eight as I have a couple of ropes stuck in a few trees:). Now they come down like butter. A tree climber I know didnt quite...

    Making presets

The beauty of SRT climbing is that you can leave probably $1 worth of throwline on a tree and it is all ready to tie in your rope potentially years later. If using bolts or screw in steps, the bolts are significantly cheaper per tree and would probably be my first choice.

Prototype weight launcher for SRT access

I've found that if I setup trees beforehand and have time to be patient getting the zing line up 25ft it isn't that bad after a few attempts with the spin and release. When I do more run and gun I try to make my life a lot easier and try to shoot for Ys and branches closer to 20ft. The biggest...

    Cold weather saddle hunting

You mean the material of the vest? Maybe if it was a coat made of that material. No noise issues so far.

Anyone use the saddle with a trad bow?

I'm gonna try to take my longbow for its first saddle hunt tomorrow. I've had a few longbows over the last few years and really love shooting them I've just a) not felt quite ready to hunt with them once the season comes or b) felt like I needed to get a deer in the freezer prior to using the...

    Cold weather saddle hunting

I just picked up a gyde heated vest for ~$100 on ebay. Actually found a womens xlarge on amazon for $10 which I'm guessing was a mistake..... Lets see if they ship it:). I liked the idea of having a slim vest to wear over my merino wool base layer and underneath a jacket. I haven't really...

    First deer with the compound

I shot that deer at about 20 yards. There was a doe with him that I drew on but just never had a clear shot on. Finally I let down to get a break for a minute until I drew again on the button buck. Made me wonder if having a longbow would be a little easier in terms of just drawing and...

    First deer with the compound

Shot a button buck last week which was my first with my bow (and my first with ernie's platform). I've shot some nice deer with the muzzleloader and my xbow out of a saddle but this felt like way more of an accomplishment. New goal is to get one with the saddle and my longbow. I really love...
