Yes fleece is warm but i feel it keeps the sweat from wicking away from bodyI don't doubt merino is superior, but I got some fleece bottoms off STP for dirt cheap, they are fantastic.

Base layers have two purposes, the primary to wick sweat away from your skin and keep you dry, the other providing a measure of warmth. Sometimes two thin layers can keep you warmer due to sandwiching air between the layers, but typically you'll be better off going with an insulating second layer over your base layers.I get really cold and didnt know if if the furst lite would keep me warm. I wear artic sheild h3 in bibs and coat. Idk, unsure of this layering method
Thats what I was wondering. I've only been wearing ua base 1 and bibs and smartwool socks. After i get in stand I'm drenched in sweat. I unzip bibs to cool off then i get cold and bundle up. I will give this a try and see how it worksBase layers have two purposes, the primary to wick sweat away from your skin and keep you dry, the other providing a measure of warmth. Were it me I'd put the first lite next to my skin so it could wick sweat and keep me dry as I sweat like a mofo walking to my tree. As in, I'd be wearing my base layer and the bibs, nothing else and humping my outer layers on my pack. I used to wear UA and other synthetics and I was a drippy mess in the stand and would wind up in zipping everything and shedding clothes to cool off. Then I'd get chilled and have to pile back on. If you can can you throw the UA on over the first lite?
Okay, I literally laughed out loud when I saw that. ThanksAmazon has some “interesting” options....
I got some basic black base layers from Target that are the bees knees.
I think they were $21 a top and $21 a bottom originally... cheaper on sale.
