Good info guys, I just ordered 14 steps, don't ask me why because I figured I could get by with less but I almost ordered 16!. I ordered them with the longer ropes because most of the trees in my area are pretty large and I was worried about limiting the trees I could climb. I had planned on 3 for a platform and still wanted enough to get up to 30' if I wanted. I can always use extra steps for a handle or hanger or whatever. Plus with the 10% off I figured I would get them all at once. Now I just need to decide on a saddle!

If you use an aider you will probably end up carrying 11 or 12. Don’t feel bad about getting 14 though. I made a camera arm bracket out of one. It’s nice to have one above your ring of steps as a handle when climbing up and a backpack hanger/shelf once you get setup. There are times I have hunted a morning stand and wanted to hunt a different spot that evening and then decide if I want to hunt that same spot the next morning. It would be really nice to be able to take the bottom two steps off and leave the rest in that situation. I have sticks also but I hunt in the fly a lot and steps are way better than sticks when walking through the thick stuff looking for that perfect spot.
