7/64 Amsteel Safe for Aider?

Ok amsteel experts:

Is 7/64 amsteel strong/safe enough to make an aider out of? I know people use it for climbing sticks, so would it be strong and durable enough to use as an aider step to hold all of my body weight? I would be using it as an aider on Wild Edge steps. Is anyone experienced with amsteel and the acceptable uses? If not 7/64, then I will go to 1/8. I am putting a step at the bottom, so the smaller the hole I have to put in my step, the better, that's why I was wondering about the 7/64. Thanks!

I'm not sure how you would qualify that. I suppose that an aider is briefly life support as you transition onto it, and then onto the next step? I will also be using a linesman belt.

If you are just using a linesman and the aider at any point I wouldnt use anything that you wouldnt use for a tether. Personally.

I climb SRT and use an aider as part of that, but its never the main thing keeping me from falling so I wouldnt feel bad using lighter material for it.

In my personal opinion it’s not safe for sticks or aiders. The working load is only 20% of the breaking strength and recommended by the manufacturer to go even less than 20% if life or limb is at stake. Based on Samson’s charts that put the safe limit at 280# and like it says even lower depending on what’s at risk.
 
I would and do. My sticks and platform have 7/64 daisy chains and aiders. You rig it, you ride it I guess.

I used 3/16 with no hose or padding in the loop and it doesn’t take long before it starts to hurt my feet. In rubber boots and tennis shoes.
 
This design would have a step at the bottom that is something more substantial than just the rope for a step. I was just wondering if i was taking it too small going with the 7/64
 
I would go with 1/8 for the extra peace of mind. Sure 7/64 will work but 1/8 is rated to 500 lbs working load while 7/64 is 320 lbs working load. I have sold alot of 1/8 aiders with rubber hose to step on with nothing but positive feedback.

Thanks for the reply. Bases on that info, ill go 1/8 for the exact reasons you mention. Mine will have a wood or pvc bottom step. Still working on design. Thanks!
