Age of deer?

Got this newcomer on one of my hunting locations. Much bigger body than the other 3 bucks. What age would you put him at?

Hard to tell from that pic, but the waist is still a little lean compared to the chest, so I'd say that's a very healthy 3.5 yo. I wouldn't be shocked if it was 4.5 though - really close.

Summer pics and single encounter pics are not good tools for estimating age. A buck can look vastly different and even a series of pics can be misleading.
Plus, a buck will look at least a year older in November than he does in August.

Not sure what your management goals/rules are. If he got me excited I would draw my bow. Like Tom said he’ll look older in November.

My vote is 4.5 but very hard to age deer on the hoof in the summer especially pictures. They look different in different areas of the country as well

Thanks for the input! It’s at my moms place which is only a 5 acre lot, that deer use as a transient area. I didn’t expect much but he’s come onto the scene quite a bit. He’s #1 on my list come 15 September.
