Remembered I had a bag full of these steps and found them this past weekend. In looking through past threads here it looks like most have put the steps on a ratchet or a Cam buckle. Are there any issues just adding steps to the original strap? I did check the date stamp and they are all 01/05 steps so looks like they are ok as far as the recall. Not sure I will like using them rather than a platform but want to try them since I have them and they were only on a tree once years ago.

Plan to try them this coming weekend and will make a decision about keeping them. Otherwise there will be 9 steps in the classifieds along with my Woodpecker drill and set of bolts that also have been laying dormant in the back of the closet.

IMO, the best thing you can do is to go with an over center buckle. Locks it down tightly to the tree and keeps it there nicely. I ordered boat straps from Amazon and used just the buckle on the original straps. In another post, I shared pictures of my DIY "cleats" that I added to back side of steps which keep them from sliding around on the tree. You still get a little movement, but not much.

I don't use a ROS often, but when I do, it's Ameristeps on the original strap with an over-center cam buckle.
