I'm gonna be doing ropes on some sticks and I see some people say to use amsteel and others say don't. I'm looking for the best rope to use on my sticks. And about how much should I use per stick?

I'm also looking to make a 3 step aider and was curious how much rope I should use to make the aider.

Personally, I use 8 mm rescue rope cordage, it has a very low stretch. My ropes are 6'-6" each after tying the overhand loop. This should allow you to climb around 22"+ diameter trees and still tie off the hitch. IMO, as far as the aider is concerned, I would buy a three or four step etrier a for about $40.00. They're lighter and designed very well to keep the foot loop open.
Hope this helps.

'Etrier, (pronounced A-tree-A) is a french name for aiders. I never heard of aiders until I got on this forum. Rope companies, rescue personnel, arborists and climbing enthusiasts use this term all the time. Hope you find what you need.
