Assassin Packing Methods

I’ve messed around with an assassin in the past, but am going to be using it for the whole season this coming year. I carry a DayOne fleece pack with all my filming gear, ozonics, misc gear. In the past I used to slip my assault and sticks over my pack with really loose backpack straps. I tried that with the assassin and it didn’t work quite as well because I couldn’t reach it behind my back as well as the assault.

I like having the stand not attached to the pack so that I can slip it off my back and hang it on the tree after climbing up.

Does anyone have any ideas on great packing methods for an assassin when carrying a pack and possibly sticks?

Could pack it & sticks secured to pack. At tree, unattach them all from pack. Then hang Assassin with a sling style/gym bag style webbing strap behind u at mid back height. Hang sticks from ur saddle at hip level.

Pick off sticks as u need them. And u can swing around Assassin when ready to hang it. Easier to swing around then get shoulders out of backpack straps.

I don't have much experience with an assassin but I know what I'd do if I were you. I'd " pack " it up and mail it to @huck72412 for 150 dollars. Take the funds and buy a predator

Haha!! I had a Predator on order but had to cancel the order to purchase an Assassin. Had an assassin a few years ago and was stupid and sold it. Plenty of room to stand and turn for weak-side shots, especially since I’m a hefty dude shooting a srickbow. I’m sure the Predator is awesome, but I wanted the security of a big platform...

I had thought about trying that. Unfortunately the fleece pack isn’t beefy enough to haul 13# on the compression straps. I would go with a different pack but I like my DayOne pack for two reasons - it’s dead quiet and I use it to pad my knees in the tree when it’s empty by hanging it at knee level in front of me...

Any recommendations on a good solid QUIET pack?
I recently switched to a Mystery Ranch Popup 28. Its the best pack Ive owned for filming saddle hunter. I don't find it loud but it's not made of fleece. There are several reviews including one from a saddle hunter perspective on youtube.

I’ve heard great things about that pack. I had a MR Treehouse - it was a solid pack and super well designed. Just couldn’t get past the loud cordura. I’m weird about sound haha

I use the assassin sometimes. I carry it mail pouch style slung across one shoulder and wear on my side if I'm using my small backpack or fanny pack. If i'm in my large backpack, I'll strap it on the front. I really only use it if I have a shorter walk, or I intend to leave it in tree for multiple hunts. Both are pretty rare for me these days. It is a nice platform though

That’s a great idea - I had considered that but may actually try it now. I don’t have any trees further than maybe 1/2-3/4mi from the truck. Easy walking for the most part.

If you want a good fleece pack you may want to consider the one by Day1. It won't have the durability of the cordura mountain packs but it will be mouse fart quiet.

That’s what I’m running currently - been using it about 4 seasons now.
Its a larger custom version (about 2500cu in) and I’ve added a plastic stay in the pack and added compression straps on top and bottom. It’s an excellent pack! But you’re correct, it’s not gonna last forever. Will probably have to order another here in the next year or two.

Has anyone used a Sitka Tool Box is Tool Bucket? Looks like a lightweight platform could easily strap to the outside of the pack for easy access but has lots of smart storage.

own both and they hold up fine with the assassin strapped to the front. I actually use the cambuckle strap with it and go completely around the pack in addition to using the buckle straps on front to secure it. I have the alpz pursuit and it works equally as well. I may be looking to sell one of the two sitkas. Pm me if you're interested. Too much stuff

I too carry the assassin and muddy sticks over my shoulder. 2" polyester universal carry strap (2'-4') from strapworks .com. Using "3", 24 inch Orange Nit Ize rubber twist ties. With this over one shoulder and my recurve in the other hand. Other gear in either a small Kathy Kelly pack, or medium sized Day One fanny pack, or catquiver II depending on situation. Over the shoulder has worked good for me.
