Back up safety line?

I noticed when watching some videos of folks using a sitdrag that they were also tethered to a Hunter Safety system type line. Is this of back up safety line commonly used with other saddles? Not sure how that would even work with a Tethrd Mantis for example.

Is that type of redundancy a problem?

I am not sure what video you are referring to but, a traditional HSS type harness where the attachment point is in the back doesn't work well with a sit drag or other DIY harnesses. Most people however do use a rock climbing harness with a sit drag, as a sit drag was not designed to be used at height. In this configuration the sit drag is your seat and the rock climbing harness is your safety harness.

With a commercially built saddle the saddle acts as your seat and your safety harness so an additional harness isn't necessary.

Hey folks - you mention the HSS harness.

Is there a thread somewhere about the hunter safety harness being modified into a saddle/sit-drag harness? Seems like someone must have gone there...

I’ve got 2, and a beefy sewing machine. I’m thinking I can mock up a saddle on my own instead of explaining to my wife why I need to spend more money!!
